CBBC is much better than CITV.

It's not. There's not much i've watched on CBBC before CiTV's finished.
Powers and Cubix[which i've gone off] is about it.

4) They are failing to run a decent #2 channel (ITV2 nowadays is purely soap repeats, often-rerun films, X Factor/I'm a Celebrity/Dancing On Ice-Extra things and Judge Judy)

Don't know what you consider as 'failing to run' but ITV2 is the second most popular digital channel (and ITV3 is the 4th) so they can't be doing that badly

I haven't watched CITV for years but when I was younger they made some top notch stuff like Knightmare and Press Gang (as well as that one in the kids hospital, but I can't remember what it was called)

Children's Ward (renamed The Ward for a time). It was the best children/teens drama on CITV; serious competition for its BBC rivals and many of today's household names have it to thank for launching their careers. Were Children's Ward on the BBC, it would almost certainly still be going.

What Children's Ward proves is that even as recently as 1996, CITV could still offer great programmes. So today's news is desperately sad, even if you could see it coming. And even worse, Ofcom will let them do it.

ITV really are making a rod for their own backs. Run by a blinkered chief executive whose sole purpose in life is to prostitute the network's history and reputation in the name of profit; they get rid of PSB commitments and blame digital competition when the audience share falls.

Oh to have been a fly on the wall in Coronation Street's green room today - many of whom wouldn't be there if it wasn't for CITV. What Chas Allen and Simon Mis-Shaps should be asking themselves is where such future talent will come from, and, more importantly, where will ITV1's future audience come from if there's nothing to attract them?

What has all this got to do with today's news?

ITV are selling ITV Productions Kids, so lets make a list of former ITV owned channels?

All in all if this is the end of days for CITV, I can't say I'm suprissed; poor choice of imported shows and some of the most redicilious "For time" edits I've seen in quite a while (Content is hardly an issue, never was over here), poor choice in created works (I honestly can't remember the last drama that came from CITV's own shores, oh yeh, now I do, that long one about DNA Cloning or such.) and a sharp fall in Saturday Morning shows that makes the US plight look like a ride on a kiddie roller coster.

And, from my point of view, CITV aquitred RobotBoy.
CBBC aquired Astroboy and not only that, has been the only Anglophone country to actualy air all of it.

I think I'll take my chances with the beep.

The Chart Show wasn't CITV. Technically, I don't think CDUK was either.

I remember watching those channels in the 80's and 80's, I haven't CITV at all recently, but obviously the quality of the programming just like the rest of ITV has gone downhill, it is desparately sad that we are now starting to see the demise of CITV as well. Crying or Very sad

and CD:UK was made by Blaze TV rather than ITV themselves anyway

Has anybody actually read the facts of the article yet, rather than the MediaGuardian reporter's opinion?

I've read most of the report and do agree that it is a shame that in-house productions are to be sold -off, if a buyer cannot be found then closed. One question, though, does this mean the demise, yet again, of Cosgrove Hall Productions????? (which is owned by ITVplc - formerly Granada plc)

But the quality of bought-in shows has rapidly decreased, due to the continuous cut in budget year on year. From the list I gave earlier, many were made in house by the many ITV companies. But look at CITV today and ther is very litle made in-house and of the programmes bought-in how many are of good quality, like during the 80's and 90's - NONE. It's no wonder children are looking elsewhere.

ITVplc , as I have previously said, have murdered their golden goose.

I'd look at it the other way myself, that it's the fault of children looking elsewhere that is causing these decisions

It's plain to see that today's kids prefer US programmes, they are much cooler than the likes of Grange Hill or My Parents are Aliens. Even My Parents are Aliens seems to miss the middle teen audience, aiming for little kids with the laughter track but picking up the older student audience due to the clever writing

Then when you factor in that the makers of these American programmes all have their own channels over here so get the first and 100th run of these shows and that digital tv takeup is highest amongst the young, it's no wonder these decisions are being made

This will also be why CBeebies performs much better than CBBC, and why CITV's schedules are dominated by pre-school programmes, because pre-school programmes don't transfer over from the USA to the UK as well
