It's called character.

Please could you clarify that statement? On first reading, it seems like you're dismissing racism as being characteristic.

It's a characteristic of Eric Pollard, the fictional character. Is it something Eric would say? Yeah, I think it is.

Let see what he was like back in 1986.

Hey, remember when Karl burnt down the Rover's and then switched off Sunita's life support? Well, not only did they let back out on the streets, he ended up running one of the country's top hospitals! Surely OFCOM should have stepped in there.

The "a" would have made more difference in the first post than in the second one, ironically.

Fair do's.

Copying what I've written on the other side...

In the case of Eric Pollard, yeah it is (character.) He's a bitter and twisted spiteful old man, who nearly 20 years ago had a mail-order FIllipino Bride leave him. Some people within the Emmerdale universe still believe he finished his wife off and the plane crash conviniently covered it up. And Eric is even more worn down by that whether he did or didn't do it. I'd totally expect Eric to come out with something like that if I saw him in the Woolpack.

I can't stand distortion of the truth of fictional characters (or those who really existed and are being played by actors) for the sake of political correctness. It's acting. If it's not true for the cast and crew, what **** chance do we have?

It was quite clear that he meant Eric's CHARACTER was being racist as part of a storyline. As we saw later, Eric's son virtually disowned him as he has a mixed-race daughter. ITV isn't being racist, Emmerdale isn't being racist, and Chris Chittell isn't being racist. Its a story.

Thank you!

Don't worry, I expect Pollard would vote UKIP too.

I don'st matter what anyone views are, TV has the responsibility to highlight everyone views including those which the mass may will dislike, but covering them up just to keep certain jump up people happy is no way in dealing in such matters.

Absolutely! It's worrying some people cannot separate fact and fiction. Then some people have then used my pro-UKIP arguments on Metro to suggest I'm a racist too. People like Eric Pollard exist.

In the 90s when Frank died many villagers celebrated his demise in the Woolpack. I wonder if the ITC got involved on that?

not directed at you rob per say.

This morning went above all the silly game, and just played out the offending words when there were looking back old TV shows .

If we you wish we could have debate about how TV has managed to look back properly at yesterday years.

Ch4 has done a good job especial if you wish to see what you used to get away with.

I notice there's new sponsorship adverts with the characters in them suggesting that they could no longer be sponsoring Emmerdale soon.
