It's a shame they've stopped using it after 41 years on screen though.

Is it really?

For Emmerdale it is, it was the only link back to the first episode, but then again, it's not like Home Farm itself is being written out, if anything, we can expect it to have a bigger role.

Emmerdale is always full of people moaning or crying whenever I tune in. There just seems to be no comedy at present, they've even made Val and Pollard really dreary of late.

i completely agree. Very very depressing.

I don't think Val and Pollard can joke around - Val has HIV.

However, I did like her little motivational speech about it the other day called 'HIV and Me'. Quite funny the way she put it across.

Not an Emmerdale viewer myself, but a friend has pointed out that the announcers have been calling Eric Pollard only by his surname as well - as do the synopses on Digiguide (possibly they're all ultimately coming from the same source).

Anyone know why this is, given that (according to said friend) he's never referred to as "Pollard" by other characters?

STV announcers also refer to the character simply as "Pollard". Odd...

I think that for a time the character was listed in the credits as "Pollard", and I think Alan Turner was also just listed by his surname.

I think it refers back to the 1980s when "Pollard" and "Turner" were linked to Home Farm. They were also very cantankerous characters too. A lot of the older characters used to call them Mr Pollard or Mr Turner, notably Seth. Not so much the case today though so strange as to why unless it's for dramatic effect.

Emmerdale is currently being shown Hollyoaks-style with a filmic/25p effect. Is this a mistake or a planned change? Oddly it suits the show.

I thought the second one was different. Didn't they try this once before? I didn't like it.
