It just needed the Crossroads theme and it could have been 1976 again.

ahhhh that did remind me of the Crossroads v1 end snippets - very non-cliffhangerish!!!!!!

But isn't Emmerdale the 21st Century Crossraods anyway.....

clues:-

1. Sam Dingle very alike to Benny Hawkins
2. New end snippets - very much like Crossraods end snippets
3. Crossraods set in a motel on the edge of Kings Oak village - Emmerdale is set in a similar size village and ruled by the Kings (a very very loose connection! Laughing )
4. Crossroads was about 20 minutes in length, Emmerdale is about 20 minutes in length (without commercials)

Emmerdale is always being used to 'test the waters' with new effects and ideas.

- They tried the filmic effect that was used briefly in 2003.
- Incidental music introduced to create emotion during death/harrowing scenes.

And now the added scene in the end credits - seemed a bit pointless tonight.

Hollyoaks always end with the extra scene after the credits and it is done much better than emmerdales attempt tonight. Maybe Emmerdale will be copying more of Hollyoaks it already has one of its past actors maybe storylines will be next? Laughing Laughing

Well the Crossroads document archive / scripts and episode footage is all stored in Yorkshire Television in Leeds. I wonder if they've just been picking at it to redo it.

The format for Emmerdale has shifted more to 'soap' too (using incidental music in scenes sometimes, like Crossroads only really used to do that - UK soap wise anyway.)

I know Sam is very Benny, and Crossroads also did a storm in 1969. So we just need watch out for a Downs child, a witchcraft story in the church, a female mechanic and the B&B being blown up by a bomb and we know they're flicking through Crossroads scripts. They already had the wheelchair character.

What's the betting that Jimmy King ends up in a wheelchair and we get the whole Tate family all over again.

It wouldn't surprise me.

Ooops, I completely forgot about the Crossroads Garage!!! Doesn't Debbie Dingle now work with SCott Windsor at the Garage????

I seem to clearly remember an IVF storyline in Crossraods (the first soap to touch the subject), now its happening in Emmerdale. The foacl point of the soap has been blown up on a couple of occasions just like the Motel/Hotel was in Crossraods.

Too many similiarities really, if you look carefully enough, for it to be a coincidence.

It's a clever way of making sure you watch the ECP. After all, how many of us just switch over as the credit start normally just to avoid the ECP!

Well I think we've established most are not new ideas... but seen as most haven't been done for 20 years I think they are worth redoing again. The cliffhanger always was a good way of keeping people watching.
