I wonder if Jeremy had a part to play in getting it back on air. Insisting on a quiz in his next contract perhaps?!

It probably makes sense, it gives Vine a (near) primetime presence on the channel.

They hadn’t made any new episodes for a couple of years and it was almost a foregone conclusion it had been axed.

Wishful thinking but perhaps they’ll bring back Whittle and have a daily Vine double bill on the channel.

I think Eggheads was much better in the early days. The early cast was much better and most of the newer editions have just diluted it and been lacking in personality. I also thought Dermot was slightly better than Jeremy as he mildly made fun of the Eggheads whilst from what I’ve seen on Vine on the show he venerates them too much.

A lot of people dislike Eggheads, but without it I doubt we’d have ever gotten The Chase. Perhaps it’ll feel a bit more fast paced now considering they’ll be an ad break to fit into the slot.

I wonder how long it'll take Channel 4 to pick up The Mash Report?

The Mash Report wasn’t exactly well loved!

By some it wasn't, but it did 4 series which is pretty good for a comedy series these days so they must have been doing fairly well.

It's real value is online, it did what so many other programmes try and fail and that's get their content going viral. Some of their items, especially the Rachel Parris monologues were absolutely everywhere online the morning after they went out. It was social media gold

Outside of Rachel they weren't and looking at that guys Twitter profile shows exactly where he stands politically.

Mash Report has already been poached by someone (before the news today) and it’s not C4.

Really? So does that mean that it wasn't actually axed by the BBC, just poached. Or did the BBC get rid of it and someone else get in quick?

I'm guessing they will have decided a while ago, and it's only just becoming public.

So this an 8 week commission for Eggheads. Yes I wonder if H&A will lose its evening repeat (unless it goes to 1630).
Makes sense to put Eggheads at 6pm- given that was always its slot- but it does put it against HoG, and better than 5/530. Plus moving the two newses for an initial 8 weeks would cause all sorts of issues, when C5 is trying to underline its public service credentials.

I expect axed and then the other party took it up rather than poached.

Eggheads was performing poorly on BBC Two though. Considering a lot of that audience will now have been picked up by House of Games viewers, I can’t see them putting it on at 6pm. 7pm makes more sense but then they’ve got to find something to fill the extra half hour, otherwise their evening lineup isn’t going to run on the hour as it does now.

Would they really want to mess around with Home & Away or does it not do that well anymore?

When the 1830 news and Home and Away had to be dropped from the evening slots temporarily last year, they aired half an hour reversions of their other shows so I expect that’ll happen here. Something like GPs Behind Closed Doors could be reformatted to air daily at 1930 after Eggheads.

Why does how you think he stands politically (I can't determine that myself) have to do with the reliability of what he says?

Sounds like he's qualified to know what the situation was

Ironically, 5 Eggheads could end up being made in the same studio at Riverside as House Of Games, as I suspect, now on another channel, and free of being forced to make it in Glasgow because of the box ticking outside of London quota boosting requirement of the BBC, 12 Yard/ITV Studios can now make it anywhere they want.

I hope they do make some changes to the look of it (the format is pretty much in a unchangable shackled straightjacket) as to quote TV Cream on Masterchef (the Lloyd Grossman years) and pretty much sums up Eggheads as well :- the show is stuck in a rut and no-one knows how to get out of it. With zero innovations introduced, when the audience can call out which camera angle is next, you know the show has problems.

The Mash Report reminded me of The 11 O'Clock Show. You watched it because the Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) sketches were exceptional, but the rest of the sketches, including early Ricky Gervais material wasn't great, although some of the Daisy Donovan material was ok.

Mash in comparison I watched for the Rachel Parris segments, yet the rest of the content never really hit the spot. If you're going to do left-wing skewed comedy, it has to hit the spot and it rarely did.

Exactly Rachel Parris was the only good part of the show. Mash reminded me of when Fox News tried to do a right wing version of The Daily Show. Utterly painful. Trying way too hard and unnatural.

SNL was clearly anti-Trump during his presidency and they continually hit it right every time.

Rachel Parris has the skill of being over to explain really bad stories and put a comedic spin on them, which is why her monologues worked, but having Geoff Norcott on as the token right-wing comedian is no different to Fox News's The Five having a token Democrat on while there are four other people still providing echo chamber infotainment.

As we know Mash is continuing on a yet to be announced channel, I hope they take the opportunity to tweak it with the writing as the non Parris stuff was very rough around the edges.

C5 also has an out of London quota to fill (though much lower and I think already exceeded) and 12 Yard has a Glasgow office that needs to be kept busy so I don't think it will necessarily move.

On the other hand, I’m pretty sure they’ll all based in or nearer to London and it would certainly be easier for Vine with both of his other main commitments. I don’t think he’s actually recorded any Eggheads since he’s had his Channel 5 show.

So I’m pretty sure it’s Vine and Channel 5’s needs that will dictate where the show is recorded. Then again, it’s unlikely he’s going to present his Radio 2 show, his Channel 5 show and record 5 episodes of Eggheads all in one day.

If it does well after a month, I can see them recording more and the show running all year round.
