I think ITV will start to p*ss people off by putting it up against EastEnders all time. I also think that EastEnders shouldn't rise to it, so what if you lose half the audience for one episode they bounce back up to 11 million again by the next and you can always catch up with it on BBC3 or on Sunday.
I mean we really need that extra episode of Emmerdale as there are only 212 a week! Sigh!

There isn't an extra one, it wasn't on on Sunday instead
And it is the 4000th episode!

So the question is why do you watch it if its boring? Each to their own and all that but all Emmerdale is about A sleeping with B behind C's back, and this plot is repeated again and again. I think the only woman Scott hasn't shagged is Betty! Then you have Corrie, a strong soap which works well due to its drama and wit and not its recent glut of over the top storylines like the recent death of Tommy (which didn't really pull in that many extra viewers).
The underlying fact here is that all the big three soaps show far too many episodes and content is getting thinner and thinner and these boom and bust episodes like Emmerdale's 4000th are really beginning to jar me a little.

Well I dont watch EE so will be watching Emmerdale, although I find Emmerdale one long yawn most of the time
IMO the show is hugely overated and im sick of it being on 6 nights a week at 7pm, it mightl run out of steam soon and hit a bad patch like EE has.

Why do I watch? Well I suppose its partly due to habit, ive been a regular viewer since around the time of the plane crash in 1993. Also IMO the show hasnt been as good since it went from 3 to 5 days a week in 2000. It was much much better when they had 3 episodes as there was less padding. I have sort of stopped watching for a few weeks at a time on occasions but gone back because of a big storyline and then it gets boring again. Personally I thought Charity's exit was a huge let down, and its been boring ever since. So basically it goes through stages of being really boring for months and months and then we get a few good episodes.
