That's public service broadcasting. Bad for ad revenue.

Eh? Isn't there a national around that time, or just a full-length regional?

Like i said, they could still be finalising the schedules, so they may change.

So what ITV really need is a wealth of regional children's religious programming - and probably best if they're in documentary form too just to ensure as many boxes as possible are ticked at one time!

Well at least there will be an Easter service on Songs of Praise on BBC1, filmed close to transmission...

or not, it seems the Easter special was filmed on the same day as the Christmas edition in November in a cost cutting measure! Laughing

Well according to the Radio Times website, ITV1 also have an Easter Service at 11:55am. CITV is on at 1.05pm on Easter Sunday.

So funny - even Songs of Praise is "lying" now. The press are making a big deal out of it though - but filming the Easter special so early is ridiculous. A couple of weeks before is I'm sure what most people would expect.

Funny on News 24 too when just before 4pm they were interviewing someone about it and they compared it to discover "Father Christmas" is just your father dressed up in a Santa suit - with the presenters immediately apologising for those untrue remarks!

Although not on the same par as Songs Of Praise, ITV's Christmas Eve Midnight Mass service last year was recorded about a month before it was aired.

I take it this is just standard practice for Songs Of Praise anyway.

Songs Of Praise from Bideford (TX 05/05/1991) was actually filmed the previous September - I should know because I was supposed to have been on it!

But you'd think it was a basic expectation that Christmas and Easter specials be live.

Live?

Will you be the one explaining that to the crew - or signing off on the overtime bill?

C'mon Simon - even God doesn't expect it to be live.

But filming it in the same "block" as the Christmas programme? C'mon Gavin. It must have been difficult creating the right atmosphere for an Easter special when most people had just let off their fireworks and probably still thought it was too early to even think about Christmas.

The Christmas services were done live (even on ITV1) a few years ago, and I don't think that's an unreasonable expectation during the festive season (the crew were probably glad of their "divine rewards"!) Maybe not as important at Easter but surely the result would be better if filming was delayed until as near to the time as possible?
