Do you think any of the other cast members, apart from Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell ) and maybe Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale), knew about Gillian Taylforth (Kathy Beale) returning? The fact that scene was filmed away from Eastenders set may have been to keep it secret from the rest of the cast. It would be nice to think the cast had a surprise too!

I notice that Kathy/Gillian Taylforth wasn't featured on the closing credits - obviously those who compiled the credit sequence weren't privy to her return.

Hope they keep the night time sequence, far better than the "normal" one.

I wonder if they got the idea from this (better executed) mock:

I'm not sure the idea of a night-time shot is exactly an original one, so I doubt the two are connected. And "better executed"? It looks post-apocalyptic, and quite cheap.

Well that's me told then.

There was this as something of a precedent:

Does anyone know anything about when the flashback episode was recorded? At least one part (which featured Richard Blackwood) didn't have the #EELive DOG but was live subtitled, so was presumably recorded very recently. Just wondered if any of it would have been recorded last year for continuity.

I heard an interview with the actress who played Lucy who said she caused problems with continuity because after she left she had her fringe cut, then realised that they'd want her back for flashback sequences!

The subtitles would almost certainly have had to have been live (not necessarily typed live, but played out live) , even for the recorded sequences. Unless subtitle inserters were installed on the playback machines feeding the gallery that can't be done in the normal way.

Pretty sure the flashback was recorded about 3- 4 weeks ago. As many photos leaked in the tabloids of Jay, Ben, Peter and Lucy filming the on location stuff.

Didn't realise until this morning that the Bobby reveal was live.

I believe it was a surprise to most of the cast and most of the production too going from various twitter feeds, Daran Little (writer).

I imagine with the non-location scenes for the flashback they may be recorded a number of 'false scenes' to reduce the chances of the correct ending from leaking out.

It's not a terrible mock, but it's hardly better executed than the real thing. The lighting is too bright and orange, making it look like everything's on fire. The aberration effect looks cheap, and the CGI isn't anywhere near as advanced as the real thing.

If you can explain why you think it's better executed, I'll happily retract my incredulity and just leave it at me disagreeing with you.

I think Eastenders has turned a conner and is on its way back up.

Trouble is it's set on a square - they'll turn another corner soon enough.

Technically speaking the show seemed a lot tighter than previous live soap episodes - it all flowed brilliantly without the awkward cues we've seen previously.

They have definitely turned it around in the past year after a poor 2013. That said, these soaps seem to go in waves, when one is poor another one is good.
