Of course, it was routine in the 50s and 60s for TV drama to be performed live, or 'as live', arguably more demanding than present day (and rare) live drama productions.
Speaking of the live inserts one facebook friend thought the show was live completely as she was amazed at how quick Jacqueline Jossa returned to work two days after having her baby.
They are lucky that people were around on set to pick it up so soon. The sets been made out of wood would not stand a chance if it was left any longer. Lucky the live eps are at night and if they clean up the smoke damage and put new netting at the window I don't thing you would see the damage.
On another note EastEnders got 9m+ last night. No matter what you think of EastEnders they are clearly working hard to be in a better place from a couple of years ago and it's working. I love all the little details they are putting into the show to celebrate to the show history. Dom and the team are doing really well and I can't wait for the rest of this week.
Shame BBC One could not have made an ident or even edit the 25th ident. They could have had a few shots of the suspects in various places on the square to reveal the circle square in the dark. Would have been a quick and cheap way to celebrate the show. Seems like a missed opportunity.

They could easily have edited out some of the shots at the beginning of the 25th Anniversary ident and used it again if needs be. Keep the Masood shot, Dot at the window, Phil and Max, Peggy and Dot, Ian Beale, and build up to the circle forming from 20s in and it'd still be perfect.

I'm surprised that given the live specials in recent years that a new live drama hasn't been commissioned to try and cash in on the gimmick.

Wasn't Corrie and Crossroads both live back in the day?
Calling him by the name of the actor! Do you think that scene will end up on It'll Be Alright on the Night? Jo can count herself lucky that TV Burp doesn't still exist, because I can imagine Harry Hill totally taking the mickey out of her, pointing out there's no character called Adam in the show.
TV Burp - Capacity of jokes would be very limited.
It'll be alright on the night - would be very weak and would probably require an explanation out of context on a clip show.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was done deliberately.
