Slightly off-topic, but I came across this on YouTube today and noted that EastEnders were still using the old BBC logo two months after it had been replaced. I know soap episodes are produced well in advance but were they not that bothered about it so prominently featuring the old logo?

From the archives, although the original discussion was (sort of) end-cap related, it answers the question asked above:

Although I'm pretty sure the change from BBC Choice to BBC Three was instant?

Forgive me, if I'm going away on a tangent but I'd be interested to hear people's opinions. This sort of ties in with the themes

Would you support the decision to change the opening credits? Since birth we've had the river Thames shot but is anyone else a bit bored of it? I guess it is iconic for the show but does anyone agree they could really refresh it and still apply the same end shot?

Personally I did quite like the titles EastEnders Revealed used to have which used shots of the square with the map logo placed within those shots. However for the main show it wouldn't be worth the backlash - though I am surprised they're yet to place Albert Square within the map so the titles begin there rather than at the Dome.

Emmerdale seems to be the only UK soap to get away with changing their theme up. Hollyoaks did change their theme completely for a couple of years before returning to a reworked version of the original theme which apart from one remix hasn't changed much at all in the 10 years since it debuted.

I quite liked the 'Ricky and Bianca' special theme that David Lowe composed. http://www.davidlowe.co.uk/uploads/media/audio_140.mp3

I wonder if they were to something like this:

Just tighten it up more.

What you can say is that with the other soaps when they make set or character changes it registers the opening credits out of date regularly whereas Eastenders is lucky as the layout of London isn't scheduled for a rebrand for a few years yet.

In all seriousness, I'd quite like to see the square incorporated like you said. I wonder if they could have Eastenders with the Thames outline (or something) place over the square?

Oh so do in fact.

I think it would fit if EastEnders did a Neighbours like opening? Obviously add the "duff duffs" at the beginning of somewhere in the theme?

Of course though I was talking in context of the end cap of EastEnders, and the reference to "EastEnders is on BBC Three at 10pm..."

There are so many little oddities with the EastEnders titles. I've noticed that for a period in the 90s, only a character's first name was credited except for Dot Cotton whose full name was used.

I wish this had been adopted as the actual theme in the early 00's. It's a bit dated now though.

There's a nice extended version too, with the middle eight:
