Didn't the credits used to continue in the style of Julia's Theme?

The only occasion I can think of is when Peggy left.

Is the version of Julia's Theme used these days the same as Peggy's Theme?

No, both Peggy's Theme and the regular Julia's Theme are in use.

Peggy's theme was used on Friday just before the fireworks, whereas the rendition used earlier was the normal Julia's theme. Smile

Didn't notice at the time but having watched the live episode on iPlayer, you can hear at the end that firework sound effects have been used as the Duff Duff's! Quite clever.

It seems the Julia's theme was used more in the past for an ending that didn't require a big "duff duff" moment, which I guess is nice. Naturally to bring viewers back the next day the show needs something at the end to grab them but I wonder if we'd all get sick of the alternative if it was used more often in the same way it was for Pat and Ian?

It always sounds like such a crash into the credit music to me.

I don't understand the "crashing in" bit. It slowly builds and mixes into the regular theme seamlessly. Can't hear any crashing.

I'm glad they use it sparingly, it's always a nice surprise when they do use it too. Lovely piece of music.

Peter and Lauren left together (with Julia's Theme, that's been used twice in the space of three episodes!) - expect Lauren back alone in a few months. If Peter comes back, he'll have to be recast, as Ben Hardy just joined the X-Men.

Well, perhaps not crashing, but it's a harsh cut from one piece of music with a certain mix of instruments, into another piece with a different mix of instruments (and Julia's Theme always sounds more "surround-soundy" than the main theme, to me). Cutting the scene noise so abruptly doesn't help either, but if they could just hold the strings across for a bit, or something, I think it'd sound much smoother.

There's a vaguely similar issue with Doctor Who when it goes from the cold open, mixed in 5.1, to the titles, which are basically stereo with one or two swooshes in the other channels.

I hate to break it to you, but The X-Men aren't real.

Will Lauren be returning?

Yes. the actress is on maternity leave currently.

It never sounds seamless though. We go from synth strings STRAIGHT into synth piano and drums. no mixing, just a harsh cut.

I've watched a few examples on Youtube and it seems that they edit differently each time - on some occasions it just cuts between the versions, Julia's theme builds before changing to the regular version. On some occasions it seems a lot cleaner transition than on others.
