When BBC Three repeated that later on, they actually inserted a 60 seconds bulletin at the switchover point! Should've gone straight to the second half without continuity, or better yet, edited it to combine the two programmes.
The fireworks shouldn't have been a surprise, because a test run is what caused that fire the other day.
I agree. He usually presents Sportsday on the news channel. Wouldn't expect a sports presenter to be involved in this.
Though he does have a Newsround background doesn't he?

I thought that was great to be honest. The live episode seemed really slick compared to 2010, just the odd slight crash zoom. Nice to use Julia's theme as expected but then to actually end on an upbeat note with the fireworks was a surprise. Lovely touch with the Julia+Tony bit too (no doubt loads sadly asking 'who are they?') And announcerless full credits into the backstage show. Really well done.
That 9pm switch should maybe feature on a 'how not to do junctions' training video

You missed Joe Swash's dodgy handover to Ore when he said Zoe instead. Ore was out of place.

I wish they'd got Gaby Roslin to host the after-show. She hosted a whole week of live specials for the 15th birthday in 2000 , and as a fan she used to get so caught up in it all and her enthusiasm shone through.
Even Jeremy Spake wasn't as bad.
I got the impression none of the three presenters of last night's special were die-hard EE fans.

Well The One Show (EE themed) went straight into EastEnders without continuity... (at the start of Live Week), guess it would make sense not to break up the atmosphere.
EastEnders and EastEnders: Backstage Live were two different programmes, with two different programme numbers. They also came in on completely separate outside lines, and Backstage was cued on air by NC1 rather than the main programme.
Was the show itself and the live aftershow technically classed as the same programme? Would that explain why there was no announcer over the end credits and no ident/trailers in between.

Apart from Joe Swash who was clearly picked on his connection to the show rather than any presenting skills they were perfectly fine. Yes, the crossover was messed up big time and yes, on one pre-recorded segment they threw to the wrong presenter, but that is nothing to spend pages here slamming the show for. Frankly all those complaining deserve a world where Alex Jones hosts all such specials.

I hadn't realised he was in EastEnders, not as odd a choice as I thought

Ellie Taylor was awful, give me Swash any day. Zoe Ball was also all over the place.

She's been particularly random this week sitting in for Ken Bruce on Radio 2. Dreadful, random
drivel that even your typical local radio 'Dave DoubleDecks' would be ashamed of. She needs to slow right down, and actually listen to (and think about) what she's saying

You didn't catch his "bring back Mickey" joke then? Mickey Miller was the character he played.
