Television acting is different from theatre acting - the distinction Jonathan was making there. Peformances in the theatre are "bigger", physically and vocally as you have to make yourself heard to people sitting all the way in the back.

Some actors don't make the transition easily - especially young actors who have come from stage schools. Consequently, some of them "overact".

Close-up TV acting is an aquired skill.

It's a perfectly valid point for Jonathan to make, irrespective of the storyline being played.

But I *guarantee* you will ignore every considered point I have made here, so I wonder why I bother.

Ignore it/dismiss it - it's all the same thing to you.

You asked for an explanation of how somebody could "overact" in such a circumstance. I explained that "overacting" has nothing to do with the content of the scene.

I was trying to share some knowledge with you Banks. I trained as an actor and thought you might actually want an explanation from someone who might know.

But if you think you know better Banks, please yourself.

Its no good trying to convince Banks, he's so welded to his own thoughts on EastEnders - we'll have to get a blow torch to prize him otherways.

I'm not dismissing it,I'm just saying its how you deal with it..

This isn't my post but its how i felt about the episode so saves me typing it up.

An excellent episode tonight, quite dark and gritty, just how I like my Enders We haven't had this kind of drama for a while. Real kitchen sink type drama. Everyday traumas, what EastEnders does so well when they put their minds to it. Diane Parish and Tiana Benjamin were excellent. I knew Diane Parish was a good actress but I'm very impressed by Tiana aswell.

Finally, we got to see the story of Jim and Max from the perspective of Max, all we'd had from the time he arrived was how rotten he is. The story of his mother falling into the bath and Jim being a real ******* to her. That was really good. We've never had Jim's past explored before and finally we're getting to see it. Quite a nasty git in his younger days wasn't he. Excellent performances from Jake Wood and June Brown who is always a star.

Finally EastEnders seem to be rediscovering what they're good at. Great stuff.

Perhaps, but for different reasons. Rolling Eyes

Just realised, isn't the actor who plays Owen that one who plays a character in The Catherine Tate Show (the couple who laugh at petty things)?
