Although i can see how it all got out of hand, ive tried to look at it from both points of view...

Banks
- Thinks this thread is controlled by him
- Finds it difficult to accept people slagging off EastEnders, but yet they still watch
- Only praise comments welcome

Other forum members
- Banks has warped views because he loves EE, and fails to recognise bad points
- See Banks as the main instigator for arguments
- Find it hard to understand why Banks thinks EE is brill.

I have praised and critised the show. Maybe its time to close this thread and just create a new, fresh one with constructive critism of the episodes can be aired?

That's me trying to be diplomatic Razz

From my experience in this thread, diplomacy doesn't get you any further than common sense does.

A spearate thread for how EastEnder might improve seems to be the only logical conclusion.

A new thread with Banks in it will give us the same old problems.

But you can't tell Banks not to post in thread. He is allowed to priase EE, but he should be warned not kick up if someone critises the show.

Same goes for some other people who do the same to Banks because he praises EE.

We just end up going round in circles. I'll be happy to chair the new thread Laughing

No thanks, I don't think we need a headmaster for an online thread. Can't the mods just ban him?

lol ok. Its because my association with Banks isint it Crying or Very sad Razz

How about setting out a list of what you all want Banks to do? There is freedom of speech, he likes the show and thinks its wonderful - fair enough.

He just has to learn that other people don't like every episode and are allowed to critise it.

What use would rules be? Spambots don't understand or recognise what other people say.

I can think of nothing worse. I find you one of the most biased and increasingly sanctimonious people on this forum.

Oh ok, the smiley was hinting at it being a joke. Ill take on board what you said though.

Ive critised the show, and banks, and also gave praise before so how is that being bias? I mean you have critised Corrie tonight as i see, does that make you a hypercrite? Nope - its your opinion.

I think this silly bickering has gone on long enough now. Any chance of getting back to discussing EastEnders itself?

Well, with respect, if you had allowed those long time members who requested a new thread (one perhaps called, "The trouble with EastEnders"), then we could avoid having to interact with Banks at all.

At least be mindful that typically it is down to one individual that fights start in this thread. People who don't enjoy it now have to explain that they are not "closet fans", as Banks is unable to work out why people still watch it.

Having someone like Banks parading around like an ar$e telling us we don't know what we like isn't exactly condusive to good debate.

Could you at least take the point of a second thread under considersation?

OK, Gavin, that sounds like a good idea. Would the regulars here prefer this thread to continue in conjunction with a "Trouble with EastEnders" thread, or would you prefer two new threads?

If this goes ahead, then people should be adults about it. Every person has the right to have their own opinion and not be harrassed because of it by other members.

If we do create two threads, then the main one is to be used for discussion of the episode storylines, news and spoilers and the minor one is to be used for discussing opinions of the overall quality of the programme. That way, we can distinguish that debate from the ongoing discussion of storylines. At the moment, the former seems to be taking over from the latter, so I think we need to redress the balance.

I like EastEnders but lately it is starting to go lop-sided. It's storylines are far to long to take interest anymore. And the storywriters cannot think of anything original to do (4 pregnant people in 1 year!). It seams to focus on one charactor in one episode then completely change the tone on the next. It doesn't act like a serial at all. The ploats have been unbelivable (not in a good way) and is starting to turn in Coronation Street. If it don't get it's act together NOW then you can wave goodbye to East London within three years.
