Oh I agree PM. The only reason I still watch is because I still feel quite loyal towards the show despite the quality having dropped a great deal. It used to be absolutely fantastic right up until 2001. 2002 onwards saw a steady decline really and sadly it hasn't recovered.

I used to like Eastenders, but i've gone off it because it is soooo predictable. there is a murder or death everweek, and every fortnight, there is a newcomer!!!!! i don't know who is who....

I reckon throughout the Ronny's Kidney storyline, Louise Berridge turned the scriptwriting team into zombies (i.e. Shaun of the Dead style). Its incredible how, in that year the soap pretty much powered down like a Power Station turning off its reactors. Not only was Ronny's life in danger but the whole soap was.

Since 2004, there have been 18 deaths in EastEnders. These include:
- Barry Evans (Pushed off a cliff)
- Mark Fowler (AIDS-related illness)
- Laura Beale (Broken neck caused by falling down the stairs)
- Viv Hobbs (Stillborn)
- Paul Trueman (Murdered)
- David Collins (Huntington's disease)
- Andy Hunter (Pushed off a flyover by Johnny Allen)
- Den Watts (Battered to death)
- Leo Taylor (Suicide - heroin overdose)
- Nana Moon (Aortic aneurysm)
- Dennis Rickman (Stabbed)
- Nora Swann (Pneumonia)
- Danny Moon (Shot)
- Margaret Wilson (Fall)
- Johnny Allen (Heart attack)
- Evie Brown (Breast cancer)
- Pauline Fowler (Brain haemorrhage)
- Joe Macer (Fall)

All in the space of three years, yet some people still thinks the show's depressing!

IMO EastEnders is ok at the moment. It's not fantastic, but its bearable. The Max/Stacy affair i've enjoyed - i'm now wanting Tanya to find out and let them two have a big showdown.

But look on the bright side, if this was Home and Away - Johnny Allen never died and went into witness protection because he grassed up himself and his associates. Stella would have drugged Ben as punishment for disrespecting her. After finally getting back with Martin, Sonia was stabbed in the Square. She died, and Martin and Rebecca left. Mickey tells Li he wants Preeti, but Mickey confesses he can't have sex as he is impotent. Chrissie escapes from prison and takes residents hostage in the Queen Vic during Phil and Stellas wedding reception.

Actually - that does not sound so bad Razz

Oh come on, even EastEnders isn't that bad!

Infact, the only reason I watch Home and Away is to laugh at it's ridiculous, over the top, daft storylines!

I agree with Onetrickpony EastEnders isn't at all bad at the moment

I agree! Oh how exciting! Bert's put up a shelf. A guinea pig died. Gripping!

EastEnders is horrifically bad I'm afraid.

And Comparing it with the other soaps? It's just the same Rolling Eyes

I have not been in the Corrie thread, but how did the Ant Farm, Molly getting a job in Dev's shop go down. These could be seen as rubbish storylines, and i would bet my house (well my Mum's house) that if this happened in EastEnders, this place would be flooded with people kicking EE in the teeth.

That said, if EE doesn't have anything dramatic happen for a couple of weeks does it? I still watch though. Gosh i'm such a hipercrite (sp?)

Spot on OneTrickPony , If the David / Tracy storyline we're to happen in EastEnders it would of been labelled "Sick" and the upcoming bomb Storyline would be labelled as "Scraping the barrel"

I suppose it would. But in Corrie it's the WRITERS which make it seem natural. In EastEnders, the writers MAKE it sick and nauseating to watch

Oh dear, don't ever compare Corrie to EastEnders again.

THE WRITING IS RUBBISH, GET OVER IT.

It's the writing that makes it though. I agree, the storylines are sometimes laughably bad on paper but when on screen, they make it work.

EE haven't got any decent writers. Even Sarah Phelps knocked out a pretty awful episode last week.

EDIT: And I'm not some Corrie fanatic. I do think it's in a bad way at the moment, yet it's still streets ahead (no pun intended) of EastEnders.

Okay, no. Let's just be clear:

EastEnders - at its PEAK - is infinitely worse than Coronation Street - when it it's in a RUT. It's in terminal decline. The cast is dreadful. The storylines are woeful. The writing is average at best. The episodes seem to last years.

It is incomparible to the other soaps.

Yup i agree the writing isn't the greatest sadly , But EastEnders always seem to get all the stick at the moment even when the other soaps have nothing better to offer. Without causing an argument i can't see how soaps like Emmerdale/Hollyoaks never get criticism, Emmerdale the more so.

And Pad even you must be joking with that post? Shocked When EastEnders hit top form Corrie doesn't even come close to matching it in class
