Was a good episode tonight. The style usually suited to a 'special' i.e Dot's story but it worked well - with it being Armistice Day.
I can honestly say I felt a lump in my throat when Alfie read her letter and cried on the beach.

Can somebody explain what nana's letter was all about, because I missed part of it.

I don't watch Eastenders at all - in fact I despise the programme, but last night's edition was simply enthralling from the word go, featuring the only two characters I know and like.
So glad I just happened upon it at the very start - it was such a moving programme, from the sleeping scene, to the restaurant, to the beach - nothing short of a rollercoaster of events, but all in the most simple storyline one could imagine.
Nana probably being nearly everyone's favourite character made it truly emotive - you just imagine her to be your own grandmother.
Beautifully written and shot.
The contrast between the cinematic flashbacks and the harsh 'reality' of video was rather strange, but interesting all the same.

Because of the breakdown it was hard to see if there was a special theme. But from the brief glimpse when they crashed back in, I think it was just the usual theme.

Not sure about the beach scene when the tommy turned up at the end though. Was the beginning the usual Eastenders theme or was it a special?

But the "tommy" was William, Alfie's Grandad, and Sid's comforter on the boat! That was the point.
It was a fantastic episode.
