I don't. I can't stand him. Sooner he's off my screen the better, though why I put EE on, christ knows.

You disgusting piece of work. Why hasn't this member been banned yet?

No, I'm sorry you've completely misunderstood what I meant there. It is my fault because I worded it wrongly. By all means I wish Joe recovers. Of course I hope he doesn't die. All I meant was that I hope he leaves EastEnders quite soon because I generally don't like him personally. But christ, yes I hope he doesn't pass away.

I simply merged these two points into one and it appeared to be a horrendous comment. I do apologise for sounding cold and insensitive, and wish to make it very clear that was not the case whatsoever.

Oh thank god for that. For one minute there I actually thought you wanted him to die. I'm glad you explained your comment and I have to say that I would agree with you about his acting, although I doubt thats really something we should be worrying about at this moment of time.

Shocked Bit of a shocker isn't it. I should imagine Shana (Demi) who is his sister in real life is taking time off set too.

Kate Harwood says David Essex is a talented and charismatic actor? Oh perrr-lease! Mad So he's done...a bit of stage work..huh! Sack this twonk of an exec producer now!

Not that I have anything against David Essex but I just think this is EE trying to be like Corrie.

That's very good of you to apologise.

From MediaGuardian:

It was the return EastEnders fans had been waiting for. The Mitchell brothers roared back into Albert Square last night with Ross Kemp uttering the immortal words: "'ello Mum".
In the canon of dramatic soap returns it was up there with Dirty Den's "'ello Princess".

Ross Kemp's first EastEnders appearance since he decided to "leave it" for an ITV golden handcuffs deal proved a ratings goldmine for the BBC1 soap.

It boosted audiences by around 3 million more than this year's average of 9.8 million.

The return of the "Mitchell factor" at 8pm gave EastEnders an average of 13.1 million - peaking at 13.6 million for the final 15 minutes.

Bringing the bullet-headed brothers back to town gave EastEnders its best Monday evening for more than six months, according to unofficial overnights.

So far this year the only Monday night episode to score higher was on February 21 when the aftermath of Dirty Den's death won an average overnight audience of 13.4 million.

Last night was rather interesting and I would add slightly cringeworthy!
The token "ard man" looked more like the office bumpkin!

I have to say though, every since Peggy's return and the empathsis of story lines have changed so has the quality of EE, something which Tracy Ann Oberman is due alot of credit for.

"I'll just go and dig something up"... Classic!

I have to agree that the quality of EastEnders has most definently changed. Peggy's return has obviously been a major success and new characters like Naomi and Dawn have got potential for great storylines. Joe is also perfect to bring Pauline a storyline - since Arthur died she has just worked in the laundrette and nagged Martin. Den's murder I think was one of EastEnders greatest ever storylines. Chrissie, Sam and Zoe were brilliant during the aftermath of the death. Tracy-Ann Oberman's acting has been superb - it's just a shame that Dennis and Sharon are on their way out.
Anyway, fantastic that Phil and Grant are back. The Mitchell brothers have given EE back the ratings it deserves. Despite ratings, I watched an episode of Corrie on Sunday and I thought it was appalling. IMO Coronation Street is not as good as it used to be - some of the storylines are a bit OTT!

I tuned into a couple of minutes of the Corrie Omnibus on ITV2 and was horrified to see how awful it has become. Poor Bill Roache, the only storyline they could give him is about giving up Caffeine. Very poor!

Full marks to Granada though for finally getting their way and ruining it.
Back to Enders now and I must say it's been unmissible for a few months now, thankfully I was on holiday when they all pissed off to France for the week!

Bringing back people characters such as Peggy, Phil & Grant and Frank does help to strengthen the show but you can't just rely on them to keep it going. Thankfully, they have managed to pull most of the existing characters back together and gave them some structure, something that has been needed for some time now. It's also great to that some of the new characters are working well like Stacey, Dawn and dare I say it Ruby.

I still think there is a bit of dead wood to cut out such as Gus, Jules and the pointless Gary but overall I am very impressed in the direction Enders is going, let's hope they stick with the formula!

From BBC News Online:

EastEnders won most popular serial drama, while Coronation Street's Antony Cotton was most popular newcomer at the National Television Awards.

Last year's awards were dominated by Coronation Street, which took three prizes.

EastEnders, which went home empty-handed last year, won this year's soap award despite trailing Coronation Street in the ratings and receiving its lowest audience in five years last month.

Street star Cotton, who plays Sean Tully, won the most popular newcomer prize, having taken the best newcomer and funniest performance gongs at last month's Inside Soap Awards.
