I was interested to see that the BBC were considering releasing Shane Richie from EastEnders to be the new Dr. Who. Maybe Greg Dyke should cut costs and combine the two shows.
Episode one - Alfie/Doctor and his companions Adric (Spencer) and Romana (Kat) race through Albert Square and into the Tardis (now disguised as an East End boozer). 'Skaro' shouts Alfie/Doctor and as he pulls a pint of Churchills, the Tardis/Vic dematerializes from Walford and lands on the desolate planet of Skaro (filmed on Barry Evans' car lot). Suddenly, the Tardis/Vic is surrounded by 1000 daleks (only 4 shown at one time due to BBC cutbacks) ). 'Quick' commands Alfie/Doctor and they run upstairs for a nice cup of rosie lee in the kitchen. The Daleks admit defeat and self-destruct when K9 (Wellard) pees on their leader, Davros (Dot).
Episode two - The Tardis/Vic reappears in Albert Square with 2 daleks hidding in the gents. They head off down the market exterminating all unspeaking extras. The launderette doors burst open. Pauline drops her washing and comes face to face with them. 'Exterminate!!!' Cue drum beat, roll credits. (She beats them off using the frying pan she walloped Arfur with after straying with Mrs. Hewitt).
Epsiode three - The Master (Dirty Den) puts Walford into a time-warp regurgitating old scripts ad nauseam and bringing back cast members from the dead.

Sorry, scrap that one - been done already.

Leave Shane where he is. And no to Jonathan Creek. How about Joanna Lumley..she should have been cast as Lady Penelope in the Thunderbirds film but would make a great (female) Dr. Who.
So, who would you cast?

Well Eddie Izzard is a name being bashed around on the Net at the mo. As much as I reckon he's OK, not sure if the doc would be a cool transvestite...

I personally liked Paul McGann, so would like to see him complete his "stint" properly...

Well, as Russell T Davies, the man who brought Queer As Folk to our TV screens, has been commissioned to write the new series of Dr Who, Eddie might well fit in..but he's not in my top ten of choices.

I hope that Paul McGann is allowed to appear if only to transform into..whoever...as they did with Sylvester McCoy changing into Paul McGann.

Russell T Davis wouldn't choose Ediie Izzard just because he wrote QAF.

His (davevid's) comment seemed indicative of the intelligence he showed in his first post in this thread too.

Of all the names that have been suggested re: the new doctor I did think that Alan Davies would be really good in the role.
