All I've gathered so far is that there is some criminal mind games between Aidan and his ex-wife, the latter who also appears to be working for someone even larger on the EE crime front.

The robbery was set up to wind up Aidan's ex. Well I think it was at least?!

I haven't watched EE for a while just dipped in over Christmas, but that Aidan is be meant to be from Ireland or America?? because his accent keeps switching.

Thats not the first time someone has complained about people changing accents.

There were two Michelle Fowler related accent issues on EE. Her daughter Vicki started off with an American accent, which then changed to a English stage school one. Her son Mark supposedly lived in America, but has a British accent.

The stupidest thing about Vicki was her accent went AFTER she'd gone back to the USA for a while. Which makes no sense. She left with an American twang, then came back British. I can understand her accent fading while she's in the UK, but why would it when she was over there, surrounded by Americans?

I find it strange too how suddenly Wilmott-Brown and his kids suddenly vanished from the show from being a big part of the storylines, I don't think we even found out what happened to the one Phil Mitchell had loaded into a van and taken away. One of them turned up at Abi's funeral, but that was it. Seems to be the sort of thing that happens when a producer changes suddenly.

We don't even know if Wilmott-Brown is actually dead or not.

I gather at least one of the more senior members of the cast wasn't happy with the previous producer, and there were rumours of an "it's either him or me" situation. While the at times fairly ludicrous Wilmott-Brown plot was dividing viewers, it's unfortunately ended up being replaced with an even more ridiculous Irish crimelord storyline which has managed to feel far more dragged out than the WB one despite not having been running for nearly as long. There only seems to be one other storyline the writers are even remotely interested in (Fowler vs Slater) and that's dull as ditchwater as well.

The issue I've found with EE certainly since Sean O'Connor is that I don't feel anything for any of the characters, except the wonderful June Brown as Dot. They're all so smug and obnoxious, that even with characters you should feel sorry for like Abi, you find them so frustrating that you don't care about them.

Not to mention the dire continuity in storylines already mentioned.

Dominic Treadwell-Collins receives daily tweets begging him to return. Not sure how likely that would be considering he's at Blueprint Pictures now (producers of Three Billboards).

It was just as ridiculous how suddenly it vanished. They had months of the build up, then they had the big reveal, where they stood in the pub announcing they'd bought up the whole square and were going to redevelop it... then suddenly the daughter turns against him, he falls ill, they give everyone their property back and before you know it the whole family and Weyland & Co. have vanished overnight. Seems ridiculous to have a story slowly building up over months to have it peter out and disappear almost instantly with little explanation or pay off.

Not like this crime boss situation is any better or makes much more sense either. It might not be as bad if it had at least been replaced with a decent storyline. Abruptly axing one storyline mid-flow to introduce another bad one isn't really going to keep viewers on side.

Except for the Vic, who still had to raise £50k, and managed it the day it was due because some random acquaintance we'd never heard of before who just so happened to be caught up in the heist plot just so happened to have half-inched an expensive bit of jewelry...

And now because of that we have drugs being dealt in the Rover's toilets and Mick's kids being threatened if he does anything about it. Such a stupid plot. Maybe Sean O'Connor should have stayed.

The hard work put in by Dominic Treadwell-Collins and Diederick Santer before him has now all been completely undone. They weren't perfect by any means but they really knew how to put the drama into the soap with exciting storylines and shocking surprises.

Santer in his two years along had very memorable storylines such as Max and Stacey's affair, aftermath of Pauline Fowler's death, Lucas the murderer, Danielle and Ronnie, Who Killed Archie?, Stacey with bipolar, Christian and Syed and the live episode with Bradley's death.

The soap is in the doldrums currently and John Yorke hasn't really transitioned out of the O'Connor era very well at all. The only thing to be thankful for is that Corrie isn't in overly great shape itself but whereas there was a constant battle against Emmerdale, Emmerdale is now winning easily in the ratings front and awards front.

As a loyal EastEnders viewer myself, I'm finding it hard to remain sympathetic to the soap right now. Terrible storylines, confusing plots and poorly written scripts and character development.

It has had it's downs before of course in previous years for example in the Louise Berridge and Kate Harwood years. But unless the soap gets back up to scratch soon, it's going to struggle considering many of its matriarchs it has been able to rely on before such as Pat Butcher and Peggy Mitchell are now 'brown bread'.

They really should just go all Top of the Pops on EastEnders because they only seem to put any care into it over Christmas and for the landmark birthdays.
