London London
We've also had a double bill of skipped episodes between today's first and second episodes thanks to the writer issue.

So if your name's 'Mike Smith' and you've done some work for the BBC at some point but you're not *THAT* Mike Smith, they won't repeat it?

Very obvious head switching noise at the bottom of the screen on some of the location scenes on today's episode on Drama, not there on the studio work. I wonder what sort of cameras they were using to record them.

What year would this have been recorded in?

Studio stuff would have been shot on 1" C-format or D3 1/2 digital composite in the 4:3 days. Location stuff could have been shot on a number of formats depending on the date and how it was shot (PSC or SCU style)

Unless I’m mistaken, these episodes were recorded in 1991/1992. I’ve noticed a similar effect at the *top* of the screen in some scenes of the 1988 episodes I’m currently watching.

I think EastEnders used VPR5 portable 1" VTRs at one point (amazing pieces of engineering - a 1" VTR not much bigger than a 1/4" audio recorder), before switching to Betacam SP for location stuff (not sure if Beta SP camcorders or BVW35 portable recorders)

I know we're not far away from the end of EastEnders using the EMI 2001s that dated back to the start of colour. They moved studios in July 91, so presumably that appeared on screen around mid-late August (possibly the same time the show went stereo when NICAM officially started?). Then Top Of The Pops moved into EastEnders' old studio in October.
