Going more off topic now but does anyone remember the good old days where you could access the BBC archive sales website online? Most of the videos were restricted (seem to remember tons of EastEnders on there obviously) but things like the news, Newsnight and chat shows often had the clean master copies online including pre air rehearsals and the like. Quite interesting for TV geeks but they closed it down and let Getty do all that now.

I assume that's where some of the Mike Smith TOTP episodes have escaped from

Just placed a full show download link to his last ever one on the BBC Four TOTP 1988 discussion funnily enough!

Looks like Drama are going to be skipping some more episodes, the first one on the 15th August, this time it seems supposedly because of some issue with the writer, whatever that is. An issue that didn't affect these episodes the previous times UK Gold showed them.

Interesing to notice, as we've just seen on Drama, the new BBC logo was being used from the first episode of 1990, whereas there were plenty of other shows using the old logo much later in the year. Then inversely in 1997, EE kept the old BBC logo until the end of the year even though it changed virtually overnight pretty much everywhere else.

I'm sure it's been said on here before that the BBC logo is burnt in with the copyright notice on the credits. So if the logo changes, it has to wait.

Today's second episode (5/6/90) was the first to use the "remastered" opening titles. Basically it looks like they rescanned the film in higher quality, and the EastEnders caption at the end is now electronically generated rather than an optical film one.

We've also had a double bill of skipped episodes between today's first and second episodes thanks to the writer issue.
