The EastEnders topic on the third page? Now that is just wrong.

Anyway, EastEnders is finally introducing trains to Albert Square using Computer Generated Imagery, eight years after Coronation Street introduced CGI Trams. However EastEnders will feature these trains (District Line D78 Sub Surface Stock) during the programme as opposed to just during the titles and breakbumpers (the former because it is an aerial view and the latter becausre there are not any!). The new CGI Trains will also create shadows to make them more realistic!

If the preview clips are anything to go by, they are also using the correct sound effects as opposed to various incorrect sound effects used since EastEnders began. Incorrect sound effects include; 1995 Stock going round a bend, 1938 Stock passing over bad track and a 1938 stock whistle blown in a tunnel created the characteristic 'deep whistle'. But knowing EastEnders they will probably continue to use these bad sound effects, as well as other incorrect sound effects such as a Routemaster and a Dennis Dart Marshall Capital pulling off from Bus Stops.

This isn't new to EastEnders however, trains have appeared before, all of which were incorrect. The last time it has appeared was when Martin Fowler held Ben Mitchell hostage on the Bridge Street viaduct. Although clearly a different viaduct was used for the high up shots as a 1995/1996 Stock train went past when it should have been the D78 Stock.

Anyway (again) I have removed my anorak and you can view the 'blog' entry at the link below.

Wow. You sure know a lot about trains. I'd like to see them put a train in the live episode.

Shouldn't the shadow in the first shot run the other way? And does the reflection in the second shot look wrong to anyone else? The building seems to be at right angles (or more obtuse) to the bridge. These kinds of errors could seriously detract from the gritty realism of 'stenders! If only they'd done this before now, Archie's will could have been blown away by a passing train.

I'll get me anorak...

I am wondering if the train will only feature on wide and static shots. Having it on window reflections even when the bridge is out of shot, on moving shots, and having train shadows in the market and streets, even when the train and bridge is out of shot.

We already hear it, so will its shadows show up too?

the bridge street viaduct doesn't even go across the road into the station, it should bisect the other viaduct which goes across george street then enter the station

at least it's better than Corry's viaduct which is some time show coming to an inexplicable halt because it would go through the brewery (Museum) building, and the one going behind the terrace is just stupid because viaducts cannot meet at right angles

On the Coronation Street Streetview you can no longer go to the top of the street as you could see the where the viaduct ended on either side.

that's rather boring of them

you can't go down rosamund street or victoria street either

anyway got a question for people with better eastender memories than me, when Cindy abducted Ian's children how come Lucy wasn't taken. I remember the episode when he went to Italy with Phil and Grant to take the boys back

Cindy (along with David Wicks and Barry Evans) snatched Steven and Peter from their school, however (unknown to Cindy) Lucy happened to be ill that day and was sent home from school. David stayed in Walford promising Cindy he would get Lucy later but he never did.

I see, that simple, thanks for that

Shouldn't the shadow in the first shot run the other way?
David

Yes. Now you mention it, it looks stupid.

the shadow should run diagonally up the building from the furthest corner to the nearest corner so the shadow is actually running backwards
