Surprised I suppose she'll leave during the live 25th Anniversary episode??
Julia's theme will definately be played whilst Peggy is driven out of Walford in a Taxi!!

Charlie Wells felt it necessary to close the thread I started on the announcement that Barbara Windsor is to leave Eastenders. Personally I feel it warrants its own thread, but apparently not.

Maybe it would if this was a dedicated soap forum, it's not, so it doesn't.

Whatever.. terrible news for the soap.

Yes, "whatever" sums it up.

I couldn't agree more. It's outrageous the BBC News website has this as one of it's leading headlines. Another example of them bumming up their programmes again - and it seems to be quite a habit with EastEnders (which I must say, in my humble opinion, is one of the most dreadful programmes on television)

Well i guess with EastEnders you either love it or hate it, and this forum has always been favoured towards Coronation Street. Although I do agree that it's not a massive story, probably something that would feature at the end of the news or in brief. The BBC always seem to have a habit of bumping up their programmes, especially on their news programmes. ITV use to do that a lot with "Tonight" although not sure if they still do.

It was also a headline on the One today.

I'm as fond of Barbara Windsor as the next man, but this should really have been contained to the "entertainment" section of the website, and perhaps only featured on Breakfast - especially as the focus seems to be shifting off "72 year old woman retires" to "explosive super-secret storyline for her exit".

Its all a little shameless, really.

Well yes Corrie has always been pretty popular on this board, but EE used to be too.

I never missed an episode for the first, oooh, 18 years.

Then it all went a bit rubbish... for me, anyway.

While I do believe that EastEnders may not be what it use to be, it still has millions tuning into it each episode, just like Coronation St. I do personally believe that it could be a million times better and yet people will still say its crap, because mud sticks. It's like Westlife, they can sing good and if they bought out an own song, written and beatifully done, people would still say its crap because its them.

That's probably true in many cases, but its difficult to prove either way, as its not got a million times better Smile

It is a bit odd that this story is still on the front page of the main BBC News website, the front page of the whole site, not even burried under UK or Entertainment. It's therefore currently in the BBC's eyes the 3rd biggest story of the day.

I think there's been problems today with the BBC News site, some stories seem to have been stuck in location, beyond their sell bt date, and other stories seem to be arriving late. I've had some pages with video embedded served up in the UK as if I've been accessing externally with Geolocks on the Video too.

This is what gets me. If you were a huge fan of the show from 1985 to say 2004, you would surely notice the show is in a completely different style now.. i.e. rubbish. The demographic of EastEnders is mainly teenagers now and the producers know that hence it doesn't matter how pants the storylines are because sadly, these are the type of people who would like Katie Price to be Queen of England. Rolling Eyes

That is how I see it, and that is why it continues to perform well - but it's lost its appeal to me.

As for Babs leaving... good.
