Well we're here again, this time on violence that we didn't even see and that you had to crank up the volume to hear in any great detail.

Eastenders Tonight [August 28th] was discusting [sic]. My wife was physically sick and my son of 13years old was brought to tears. With all the violence going on in the world and especially on our streets with stabbings the BBC Director needs sacking as he is as bad as thoughs [sic] people who do this on our streets.

I do often wonder whether people who are following the plot in EastEnders (ie are regular viewers) are actually paying attention before engaging keyboard to Points of View. This was the same group of hooligans who trashed the Vic last year, they're not going to break into Jase's flat to sing Kum By Yah with his son Jay in front of the fire! What the heck could anybody think they were there for?! I mean, really.

There's an article on MediaGuardian already, which probably means the Daily Mail will be reporting it and linking it to the licence fee.

EDIT: And here is the Daily Mail article...

I'm not normally an EastEnders viewer, but after reading the MediaGuardian article I've just watched the episode from Thursday night on iPlayer.

There was some indication that violence had taken place (off camera), but nothing to make anyone concerned enough to vomit, or publicly comment on the fact that they had. It seems to be a rather excessive and unbelievable claim and it's odd that the media has picked up on such hyperbole.

I'm not an EastEnders fan, which is why I don't normally watch it. That episode was no better or worse than I expected, and it still seems to be a rather depressing programme. All the characters fall into one of the following stereotypes:

Arrow A criminal, related to a criminal or about to commit a crime.
Arrow Been in care, about to go into care or have off-spring about to be put into care.
Arrow A long-lost relative of someone who falls into one of the above
Arrow The current/previous or next owner of the pub (or related to them).

I'm sure there are good storylines at times, but whenever I've watched I haven't seen anything to tempt me to make an effort to do so again in a hurry.

I really can't see why there were complaints?

We didn't actually see anything really.

I think people just like complaining.

Only 134 complaints?
When Jay was stabbed back in January over 200 people complained.
When the Vic was raided last year over 600 people complained.
EastEnders being complained about isn't anything new, at least two instances turn up in every Ofcom broadast bulletin to date. I dare say it'll continue to be complained about for years to come.

Honey lives in a strange world. Not the sharpest knife in the cutlery draw but at least she stays with the kids.
Unlike Dawn, who quite regularly wanders around for weeks on end without any sign of her baby and no hints as to who's looking after her. I dare say Jay had the right idea when he didn't want to live with Dawn after his dad's death - he knew he'd end up babysitting.

Speaking of Jay, there's no sign in any of the spoilers for the rest of the month about his old man. Are they just going to leave him in the mortuary for the rest of time?

I see Pat suddenly has an upstairs. Is this the first time we've seen the bathroom in Pat's tardis?

Pat's always had an upstairs. It's where the kids live. In fact her entire house has the same downstairs layout as Max and Susie's, the Masoods and the Slaters (save for the door on the other side of the room). I dare say all the upstairs areas are arranged the same across the houses.

One of these days the entire Butcher clan of kids will disappear upstairs for whatever reason and come down having grown new heads. I'm waiting for Ben Mitchell to change his head as well.

and knowing how they carefully recast child characters to ensure all physical aspects are retained (remember Victoria Sugden) he will probably be played by an over weight Asian girl

In Brookside Katie Rogers lost weight when she was recast, and Tony Dixon lost his personality Wink And earlier in it's history Lucy Collins got " replaced " and then the original actress came back some years later.
