I think its down to two things-

1) The Adverts are bringing in new/old people
2)Good old world of mouth.

Judging by internet forums/papers people have started liking EastEnders since Mr Santer took over

Perhaps they were tuning in after Friday's great episode? It was pretty dull last night so I wonder how many stick around.

So EastEnders joins Corrie by ditching a storyline out of fear of being attacked by the press. Another perfectly good storyline shelved. What a shame.

Agreed,Surely Madeleine's parents have bigger things to worry about than whats happening in Corrie or Eastenders.

it's actually kind of insulting to those affected by other storylines which have continued - illnesses, rapes, murders, etc.

Infact it may of been a good thing if EastEnders did continue with this,Bad press for shows normally hike up the ratings it just depends how far it went

What do you all think about the newspaper adverts that appeared in the London editions of 'Metro' - they had a full A3 page Advert for EastEnders yesterday, and two smaller adverts again today advertising the Stacey, Max and Bradley storyline. Cool

There was a good article about the campaign on MediaGuardian - mentioned something about it trying to reach two different type of people. The ads are alright but I agree with Nok that it does seem quite desperate - even the tagline tries to suggest that the show has changed even though the fundamental problems still remain.

I think as well, that they did it because they felt like they lost out on the Bafta's last week, and that they hope to do well in the Soap Awards next week.

Yes. In Manchester you can see several large BBC billboards. If I remember rightly - it's being able to 'connect with a particular audience'.

I only think the potential problem would be if there was BBC trailers run on other channels - given the BBC plectrum of channels.
