Do TV soap opera producers burn down the properties so they can have a refresh/revamp inside then, to make them more up-to-date?

More often than not they just "revamp" interiors as they see fit. Wouldn't be the first time a house has drastically changed without so much as a "by your leave".

They had to burn the Vic down as it was in poor condition. Built out of wood twenty odd years ago - that starts to look pretty bad after a while, and not up to the scrutiny of HD cameras.

They didn't have to burn it down as such - but in doing so they give themselves a clear couple of months to reconstruct it without having to shoot on it for a while.

Not that I'm particularly an expert on the female form, but by the looks of that foto above, Kat (Jessie Wallace's) calves will need a dressing room of their own if they get any bigger!! Sooooo jealous.

I just think it's a shame they didn't go for a bolder change...

Having not watched the programme in ages, an observation, Can I complement the fire investigators, insurers, planners, demolition workers, builders, plasterers and glaziers in Walford? They have completed the reconstruction so rapidly.

There was a last minute scene with Charlie and Patrick listening to the radio and hearing the announcement of the rise in pension age to 66 in the episode tonight. This scene had live style subtitles, all other scenes (so far) have normal subtitles. Seems strange they couldn't make 'proper' subtitles for this very brief extra scene. The audio description for that scene was simply "Charlie and Patrick are in the Mini-Mart". I wonder what was in place of that scene in the preview DVDs that the BBC send out, does anyone have access to these to check?

It is possible that the scene was not last minute at all and they just dubbed the sound of the radio on today or yesterday. The characters did not directly relate to what was said, but instead made a reference to bankers.

What about other broadcasters that show EastEnders close to the UK transmission date? (RTE?) I guess they get a version without the topical scene too?

I remember watching an 1992 episode of Neighbours and in one scene at the beginning Jim Robinson's living room had blue floury wall paper and a couple of scenes later the living room had changed to a beige colour scheme wih no on-screen explaination!
