Not necessarily.
Easiest solution is a theme tune sound byte and a static caption (or even an abrupt fade out if the UKTV channels are anything to go by). Just because you don't have something doesn't mean you can't improvise it.

that would be tricky as they don't have any music for ad breaks

DavidLees,
The last episode that was aired here was the "live" one. So, we haven't seen any of the follow-up episodes yet. They normally cut and chop little bits and pieces here and there to suit the strict "x" minutes slot availed to the local boradcast outlet. We often get sudden cuts from one scene to another.
Even at the weekends when the omnibus is shown, it is shown as 4 separate episodes, broken up with end and opening credits as in a normal episode. The breakfiller is usually ads for other BBC Entertainment programming.
The episode before the "live" one: normal end credits for us. No special viewers singing version.

they seem to be having special endings more lately - it's a nice change!

That is the station that Walford East replaces on the fake London Underground map on the set interior. Therefore we can safely say that Albert Square and the surrounding enviroment is a fictionalised version of Bow.
compairing the closing credits with a london map they seem to have stuck Albert Square on top of Bromley by Bow tube station
very clever CGI there
