What a fantastic LIVE episode, really great and enjoyed it so much! Very Happy
It was just like watching a normal everyday episode except the few camera zooms that were accidental plus some line stuff-ups that were not that noticebale actually so all in all well done to everyone and Happy 25th Birthday EastEnders Smile

Would someone please be able to post a screen-grab of the opening titles where the 25 is featured.
Thanks in advance,
Freeview! Smile

Bit shoddy that the EastEnders25 logo wasn't centre-aligned in yesterday's titles! (and that drop shadow effect hurts my eyes)

Apart from that it was a very impressive production... I don't even like the show normally. Astonishing viewing figures too.

Didn't notice it until you pointed it out, I wasn't that sure about the way the logo came onto screen either.

The point I was trying to make was it's pointless having a widescreen TV in general if all you're going to do on it is watch archive or non-widescreen footage.

Then that's a very odd point! I don't remember the scene where Ian Beale went to the shop and had a discussion with the bloke about how he only wanted a telly for showing his old videos. It think it's safe to assume he can at least get Freeview.

In the real world I was referring to. Freeview is probably a no-no though in Walford, considering it's apparently illegal to own your own washing machine, work outside the Square and go to any pub in the area apart from the Queen Vic in the evenings.

And can you really still get 4:3 TVs in Argos?

Yes you can actually.
http://tinyurl.com/y9tztzd to name but one.

Plus Ian hasn't set his TV up right either, and is actually stretching a 4:3. picture to fill his display. Which kind of defeats the whole point of having a widescreen TV in the first place.

That's a first as in the real world most people have their widescreen TV's set up incorrectly anyway (not that stretching 4:3 is incorrect, just an option if you don't want the black bars or cropped.)

Erm, stretching 4:3 is incorrect. The correct way to watch is is with the black "curtains" either side. Zooming looks awful and most TVs that have a crop option will crop it very badly.
In an ideal world TV manufacturers would stop providing silly "Fill" and "Stretch" options on TV sets, as they're just making the problem worse.

Yes, can't go giving people options, that would be crazy!

What does it matter to you how people watch their TV's? Rolling Eyes

I can speak from the point of view of someone that makes programmes for TV. I spend a lot of time when filming, editing and putting together videos making them look as good as I think they can be. You then see someone watching it on BBC One. Not only does the compression of digital TV help to ruin the quality of what you're seeing, but so does someone having their 16:9 TV set to 4:3. It cuts off the picture and makes the programme look awful. And don't get me started on those stupid TV features like 'Vivid Colour' and noise reduction which are turned on by default on a lot of TVs that make the programme look even worse.

A few interesting behind the scenes photos from the evening can be found on the blog...

With a crash mat (understandably) that big I guess that's why a helicopter(?) sound could be heard afterwards to mask sound of whatever was used to hastily remove it from set.

It was a flipping train!

I wonder if Thursday's episode and Friday's episode will jar when played back to back for tomorrow's omnibus.

Compare how the Thursday episode ends, http://bbc.co.uk/i/qvh8f/?t=55m31s with how the Friday episode begins, http://bbc.co.uk/i/qvhl6/?t=24s.

The dialogue will be odd for a start, Jack ends the Thursday episode with "You have got to run" and Bradley starts the Friday episode by saying "How do you know?". That doesn't really make sense if it were just to be played out back to back. I am no expert but I think the lighting is probably going to vary at least slightly too.

The body language will probably be out too as Bradley is seen ending the episode pulling a face but starting the next with his head in his hands. I guess they are just lucky it didn't rain and/or snow on Friday.

I did think they might show the omnibus in two parts to get round this problem but it looks like it is all one programme (on BBC Two this week, BTW). Maybe they will fade out and back in or use an additional long shot to hide the join?

Another interesting mishap was from Ronnie (Samantha Womack), 3 minutes in... she walked into the Minute Mart and picked up some paint stripper, then walked out without paying for it! Sam revealed this on the Aftermath show, saying that she realised afterwards she still had £1.20 in her pocket.
