Hi! I thought I might start up this thread to discuss how GOOD Look East is and how BAD Anglia News is.

Which do you find better, Look East or Anglia News?

I love watching Look East. A shame, I think, the move to the Forum is. And people at BBC East think the same.
Also where has Amanda and Susie disappeared to?? Very Happy

I prefer BBC Look East too, Anglia News is dire. It dedicates too much time to "cat stuck up a tree" type stories. Look East has a certain authority about it. ... and the less said about the Anglia West CSO studio, the better.

Can anyone post any images/video of Anglia News' latest look? I only saw the end part of the opening sequence and the beeps seem more there than ever. It seems like they're copying BBC News with the music.

I've noticed as well that if you mix BBC News' music with Anglia News' music (from when they had the boxed logo with the Anglia pyramids logo in the middle and 2 yellow blocks either side) it goes together almost perfectly. A little mixing and it was almost the same as ANs' next new looks music (with the long logo).

I think what Anglia need is contemporary music, something fresh in design (not GMTV-like), they should move away from the yellow & blue, and create a good logo that they can stay with for a long time, even when they have a new look.

The studio is the biggest problem for me, for a start they need a real one. They have to have the newsroom in the background. I'm sure most people have seen the newsroom by now. Why not use it on-screen in all their programmes? And that wooden desk is just.. it shouldn't be on TV. It reminds me of my old sideboard.

Bring in a sofa and a smaller newsdesk, so they use the sofa for the main programmes, and the desk for updates. They could even use both in some of the main programmes, because it doesn't exactly bring people proper hardcore news does it? They can discuss different issues on the sofa, and proper news stories at the newsdesk at the beginning and near the end of the programme.

The main problems I think are the logo, the studio, and what exactly they are reporting on. I don't want to know about the wheelie-bin that was set alight in Weadkiller Close, I get more info on whats happening around here through my door. They need to work harder on the bigger stories.

Ranting over.

Hmmmmm.. *voices in head chanting: mock mock MOCK MOCK.."

If you watched the programme in proper attentive detail, you would realise Anglia doesn't do stories about "wheelie-bins fires" and such like. If you really do disagree with that, than frankly I don't believe you actually watch.

But Anglia, as well as the other ITV and BBC regional news programmes, does give you LOCAL news, so don't expect national stories. The notable exception recently of course is Soham and I think both Anglia and Look East provided viewers with a depth of coverage built on local understanding that the nationals didn't.

As for the look, if you don't like yellow and blue, then you'd better stop watching now. Blue and yellow are the ITV corporate colours and with the national/regional news intergration coming, you'll find a common news look coming for all ITV regions. And my guess is it'l be....... blue and yellow-ish...

Anglia East does have a real studio, you are in the east patch I notice, so why are you watching West on Sky?

You can't use the newsroom as a backing, for many many reasons but not least if you did it would have to faked - and you've already made your feelings clear on fake sets. And you won't get a sofa either. Viewer research shows people want the news presented from a desk, they don't like it with a sofa, whatever you might say.

At the end of the day, local news programmes don't have big budgets for flashy looks - they are there to bring you regional news, and that is where the money goes. If you want something else, go knocking on Charles Allen's door.

I dont watch because every time I did watch I found it extremely dull. The wheelie-bins comment shouldn't be taken seriously. I dont expect national stories, I know why it's called Anglia News, but there's a lot more going on around Anglia than they (used to) report on, I get that information out of local papers & magazines. I wont comment on the reporting further because I dont know what it's like now (I'm fairly sure not much has changed in a few months though).

The look: OK if they HAVE to keep yellow and blue then they could at least cut down on it a bit. Why am I watching west on Sky? It's the same on my ordinary TV and has been for ages. I haven't a clue whether it's east, west, south, north, or australia coming through my ariel, but what I see is a brown sideboard and a dull, speckled backdrop.

I realise they have a budget for flashy looks, but why spend money on so many new looks? They don't NEED flashy rotating text or clouds animating in the background, send out some cameramen, get some nice video of places in Anglia, a little bit of messing about with the video and a simple logo at the end, and it could look really good.

It's not the flashy graphics they need, it's a good imagination and the ability to convert that into reality.

If I had all the details about viewer research, whatever they have to sit on or behind or infront of, I think there are definately ways they can improve without going over their budget.

Thats my view, thats what this forum is for. I've been watching Look East recently and I definately prefer that. It's not that I dislike Anglia, it's OK for a lot of people, just that I don't quite know where they think they're going with what they currently have.

Feel free to correct me on anything I may be totally way out of line on.

Thanks. Curiously enough, that was my first port of call. But I can't see any clips on there.

Is anyone else able to help? It's really quite urgent.
