It's awful and totally wrong. They are the best interviewers and most genuine presenters on the programme.
Sorry but Dermot and Alison were hopeless together the other week when I saw them.
E and R bring journalistic qualities, experience, the husband and wife humour and intelligence, just like Richard, Judy and Fern did.
The programme is becoming so tabloid with the likes of bimbo Willoughby, egotistical Smugfield and lightweight Dermot and Alison.
I hope the viewing figures go down, as regular viewers won't like this change. E and R have been popular on that programme for so many years.
Obviously Alison and Dermot are cheaper than E and R and one of them ticks a certain box.
Eamonn would never have chosen to leave. He always talks of his fondness for the show and they have both contributed so much to it over the years.
I think Alison brings a sense of warmth and fun to the programme, and I can also see her being very down to earth on human interest stories. I think she’ll fit really well into a regular presenting gig and Dermot has enough presenting experience to further settle into the role too.
Also what’s the point in having a ‘journalistic quality’ on a Friday when you don’t have that on the other four days of the week? Doesn’t really make sense.
And you mention about Eamonn’s fondness of the show, but I have to say, I always got the impression Eamonn found the whole thing a bit fluffy and dumbed down at times, and I say that as someone who does quite like Eamonn and Ruth. But I can’t help but think sometimes Eamonn didn’t adapt very well to some of the lifestyle features.
I wouldn't be surprised if the producers of ITV want to kill two birds with one stone. Making Fridays more younger skewing but also showing a commitment to diversity with having Alison as one of the main presenters.
If this is down to a diversity drive, I honestly hope Eamonn and Ruth take legal action against ITV. Alison Hammond is a good presenter, but she shouldn't be getting the job because of her skin colour and, likewise, E & R shouldn't be dropped because of theirs'.
Eamonn and Ruth are naturals in front of the camera and could easily present the show without an autocue. The same can't be said for others.
I do think this newspaper scoop before an official announcement from itv, isn’t anyway to handle the
potential
departure of two members of a team who been there 15 years. However blaming and downplaying the achievements of the rumoured replacements and quoting ‘diversity drives’ is utter garbage. Why hire Dermot then a white British bloke in his late 40s? If was all about diversity another BAME or LGBT presenter in, they haven’t. Ore or Rylan could have slotted in to fill a ‘
quota
’, they haven’t.
Alison and Dermot
IF
they are to get this job are getting it on merit.
