The programme is becoming so tabloid with the likes of bimbo Willoughby, egotistical Smugfield and lightweight Dermot and Alison.

Donald.. is that you?

I thought they were giving Alison her own chat show? Is this This Morning promotion instead of that now?

Oh god, more James Grant management stranglehold on This Morning looming by any chance?

If they're so desperate to 'shake things up', why not alternate Eamonn & Ruth and Alison & Dermot every other week? That would keep everyone happy.

Or...adopt a similar style to GMB; Phillip & Holly on Monday-Wednesday; Eamonn & Ruth on Thursday; and then a 'feel-good Friday' with Alison & Dermot.
Dropping them altogether is totally wrong.

I imagine they’d never have three sets of presenters on a regular basis for cost reasons.

Exactly my thoughts, this would be perfect.

I'm sure the producers are saving some money by not sending Alison/Josie around the world to do the competitions links...

It isn't about shaking up the show for the sake of it, it's about future proofing the show. Dermot has clearly been a strong contender to replace Phil for a couple of years and Alison is by far the most popular member of the wider team.

Cost probably won't come into it and I suspect Eamonn and Ruth won't lose out financially initially at least as part of any deal to stay with the show.
Turns out nobody had 2020 vision.

I wouldn't be surprised if the producers of ITV want to kill two birds with one stone. Making Fridays more younger skewing but also showing a commitment to diversity with having Alison as one of the main presenters.

If this is down to a diversity drive, I honestly hope Eamonn and Ruth take legal action against ITV. Alison Hammond is a good presenter, but she shouldn't be getting the job because of her skin colour and, likewise, E & R shouldn't be dropped because of theirs'.

Eamonn and Ruth are naturals in front of the camera and could easily present the show without an autocue. The same can't be said for others.

I normally keep my mouth shut and carry on scrolling but that LEAP is mad. Whether the reports are true or not, we see time after time Black peoples' achievements undermined by an immediate jump to say it's in order to increase diversity and that they are not there on the merit of their own work. (Alex Scott in almost every job she's ever earned springs to mind).
If ITV is keen to improve their diversity on screen (something which has been long overdue until this year), that should be applauded - but it's extremely important not to diminish Black peoples' achievements by jumping straight to saying they only got the job because of their ethnicity. Alison in particular is an incredibly popular presenter, and IF she were to get the Friday job, it would be as a result of her capability and popularity with the audience. ITV's priorities are always going to be ratings.

You'd have to be incredibly naive to believe that race isn't a factor. Not one single experienced person in the media would buy that - and I say that as a mixed race person who's very aware of the issues faced in representation.

ITV has been bad for years in using a range of talent on screen: it's why Holly, Scofield, Stephen Mulhern, Ant and Dec, Dermot etc recycle so much.

Allison Hammond is a very good presenter who should have been a solo host on her own show years ago. It's possible to believe that she's a warm and deserving talent and question ITV s motives and timing. It was deliberately leaked that This Morning wanted a Black host for political reasons.

What ITV should have done is given Alison her own show, and things like solo gigs as a Lorraine stand in etc. Stuck her with someone funny so she can help be herself in a prime time show (I'd rather see her 'Spend it well' for Xmas than Scofield).

Instead they've awkwardly put her in a different role on a show she already appears on, and landed her with a backlash from fans of ousted existing hosts. Simply to give Martin Frizell and the ambitious ITV Daytime head some corporate political points, and the chance for smug TV types to call the audience who protests the change as 'racist' and patronisingly announce that things must change.

I'd rather they kept This Morning as it is - - - After all it's a 1m ish daytime show at best - and put the talented Alison in primetime. Then I'll belive ITV is genuinely concerned about Black representation and diverse talent.

I agree, a show like This Morning which has been running for a long time does need a refresh every so often.

It’s clear that the summer Fridays a few months ago were a way for the producers to test a variety of presenters that could potentially replace Eamonn and Ruth.
