Eamomn and Ruth reportedly dropped from This Morning

Reports say they have been replaced by Alison and Dermot

If Alison Hammond is one of the replacements, that should keep some of the older viewers lessening the churn. The thing about Alison unlike Phil, Holly, Rochelle etc is that she is easily the most genuine one of the lot and works well across the younger and older age groups.

If this is down to a diversity drive, I honestly hope Eamonn and Ruth take legal action against ITV. Alison Hammond is a good presenter, but she shouldn't be getting the job because of her skin colour and, likewise, E & R shouldn't be dropped because of theirs'.

Eamonn and Ruth are naturals in front of the camera and could easily present the show without an autocue. The same can't be said for others.

I don't think Eamonn and Ruth would have a legal leg to stand on if they did that. Television is full of examples of where an older presenter is replaced by a younger one like Alesha Dixon replacing Arlene Phillips, Fiona Bruce replacing Michael Aspel etc

Maybe not because of age, but if this move is linked to this article (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-8509661/This-Morning-set-hire-black-presenter-time-32-year-history.html) and is in fact down to skin colour, then surely they can take action?

I wouldn't be surprised if the producers of ITV want to kill two birds with one stone. Making Fridays more younger skewing but also showing a commitment to diversity with having Alison as one of the main presenters.

I normally keep my mouth shut and carry on scrolling but that LEAP is mad. Whether the reports are true or not, we see time after time Black peoples' achievements undermined by an immediate jump to say it's in order to increase diversity and that they are not there on the merit of their own work. (Alex Scott in almost every job she's ever earned springs to mind).
If ITV is keen to improve their diversity on screen (something which has been long overdue until this year), that should be applauded - but it's extremely important not to diminish Black peoples' achievements by jumping straight to saying they only got the job because of their ethnicity. Alison in particular is an incredibly popular presenter, and IF she were to get the Friday job, it would be as a result of her capability and popularity with the audience. ITV's priorities are always going to be ratings.

If they did that, there's a chance it could backfire very badly.

The reason I bring up diversity is as a result of Frizell's recent interview regarding the introduction of a 'diversity acceleration plan'. I haven't made this up.

I agree that Alison Hammond is a good presenter, but her success shouldn't be at the expense of two natural and long-serving presenters who have dedicated 15 years to the show. Why not give Alison and Dermot a permanent hosting slot on the Fridays of all school holidays?

I was about to comeback with the age old response of "you wouldn't say that if ___ got the job", but then honestly couldn't think of a single person comparable to Alison, which I think speaks for itself.

It happens all the time in television where someone within the shows star begins to shine so bright established stars are moved on. And this isn't a newbie being pushed to the forefront, Alison has been grafting at This Morning for well over a decade, and it has been clear during lockdown they needed to find a bigger role for her.
Turns out nobody had 2020 vision.

And Dermot needs a new role because of X Factor being on indefinite hiatus.

Television is a fickle business and I'm sure within the next decade, the presenters that have been there for the last 10-20 years will be replaced by younger presenters. We've already seen it with A Question of Sport and it'll likely continue with other programmes.

It's awful and totally wrong. They are the best interviewers and most genuine presenters on the programme.
Sorry but Dermot and Alison were hopeless together the other week when I saw them.
E and R bring journalistic qualities, experience, the husband and wife humour and intelligence, just like Richard, Judy and Fern did.
The programme is becoming so tabloid with the likes of bimbo Willoughby, egotistical Smugfield and lightweight Dermot and Alison.
I hope the viewing figures go down, as regular viewers won't like this change. E and R have been popular on that programme for so many years.
Obviously Alison and Dermot are cheaper than E and R and one of them ticks a certain box.
Eamonn would never have chosen to leave. He always talks of his fondness for the show and they have both contributed so much to it over the years.
