The first season was on BBC Three, with repeats on BBC Two in a fairly decent Sunday evening slot as far as I can remember, although they might have buried it late at night later in the run as they invariably have done with US sitcoms, before losing the rights.
As stated it started on BBC Three and BBC Two, in fact the start of season 1 had a plum Sunday 7.35pm slot on BBC Two. But it bombed in the ratings and they started putting it on earlier and earlier before burning them off in the middle of the night.
It's currently on in the same slot Friends aired in for the whole of its life on Channel 4, that is Thursdays at 9.30pm - albeit on E4. I wonder if it would become as high-profile as Friends if it shifted to Channel 4?
Strange that it bombed in the ratings - many people on DS saying the first series is much better than any of the rest.
I was thinking of The Big Bang Theory, so completely wrong. Actually don't think How I Met Your Mother has aired at all on C4, unlike The Big Bang Theory which generally gets an outing on C4 within a week of airing on E4.
Indeed hadn't realised how long HIMYM had been going - when E4 picked up the rights did they begin airing it from the beginning (was it stripped across the week initially?) or did they pick up from the latest season they had?
