http://www.e4.com/e4hd.html E4 is launching a new HD channel on skydigital on Monday 14th. It will broadcast on channel 215. Does anyone know will E4 be getting new idents for this.

Hurrah to the continuation of black bars down the sides for 4:3 programming!

Maybe there should be better having a Ch4 plus HD channel which will have everything from CH4 and E4.

Yep - though HD simulcasting is cheaper than showing shows at different times on an HD outlet than on their SD outlet. (The latter counts as a repeat)

in fact its already sort of started, although occasionally they are breaking out of regular E4 to carry out picture testing.

Would be the ideal solution, a best of channel would work well, esp on Freeview with the limited BW, although I recognise the cost implications involved.

I'm surprised that E4 is the next of Channel Four's channels to get the HD treatment. I would have thought a Film4 HD would have been of more value, as it would have been able to carry more, if not all HD content.

Still, nice to have another HD channel all the same.

Suspect E4 has higher audiences - and given that it shows LOTS of US imports (all of which, except Scrubs, will have been shot in HD for years) it has a lot of HD content in its schedule.

On top of that a lot of the big shows that Channel 4 are comissioning in for E4 are being comissioned in HD, Skins being a good example, so it makes sense to launch E4HD to be able to showcase their HD programming rather than the current situation where viewers have to wait for a show to be repeated on C4 to see it in HD.

On the note of Scrubs, they really need to sort out the latest series before E4HD launches, which is HD yet has been shown on E4 in 4:3. Last night for the first finale episode was shown in 16:9, and therefore I guess in HD, however the second one that followed it was disappointingly in 4:3, which does make me wonder if the series being shown in 4:3 is a mistake rather than being provided that way.

Scrubs has had a strange attitude to HD - I know that they made one 16:9 episode as an experiment and then returned to 4:3 again, but not sure which series that was.

Season 5?

Quote from Wikipedia:
Quote:
Except for the finale of season 5, "My Transition", which was broadcast in high definition, the first seven seasons of the show have been broadcast in standard definition with 4:3 frame aspect ratio. After the show was moved from NBC to ABC, the broadcast format for new episodes changed to high definition. John Inwood believes that older episodes will be re-released in HD as well. From the very beginning he filmed the show with widescreen delivery in mind so the whole series could be aired in high definition when the market evolved.[49]
