I would like to say, I was completly unaware that the announcer - Patrick Allen had died prior to posting this message about him being and sounding annoying on E4 Adverts.

Once, again, apologies and please click here to view and sign the Obituary Patrick Allen thread.

I can't stand one of E4's announcers - you know the one - the man who has a real posh sounding English Accent - it's awful and on near enough all E4 adverts including Big Brother Diary Room advert and the newly recent one for Hollyoaks in the city. Who else has noticed this?

You'll probably be pleased to hear the original gentleman who voiced these trails, Patrick Allen, died very recently. You'll find the obituary in this forum, and that you are in a minority in your views.

Unfortunately for you, Peter Dickson does a good impression and he's now taken over.

Peter Dickson - doesn't he do Paul O'Grady's voiceover amongst others as well?

As marksi has already mentioned, the person that did E4's voices (up until recently) passed away last week.

E4 wouldn't be the same without his (or a similar sounding) voice. Better than all the yoofs on ITV1.

Must've missed that obit. I think his voice suited E4 spectacularly well given the way E4's presentation has never taken anything seriously.

I thought he was great, and complimented E4's humour superbly. I think the results of your vote are testament that quite a few agree.

I'm sorry, but Freeview do you really have a clue what you are talking about? The voice you are talking about isn't actually an announcer but a voice over on the trails. Patrick Allen was an amazing person who over his many years in this business provided a service in nothing but a professional manner for which I can only hope to achieve. As Mark said he recently passed away and for both television AND radio his voice will be missed. For your posting alone I think you should hang your head in shame!!!! What bad timing!

He's passed away? Wow... I was completley unaware. Embarassed

Well it's a great loss to E4. I felt his voice personified the channel... when you heard his voice you thought E4, and that's always a good thing if you can achieve a status where your voice can be instantly related to something.

You think Marcus, you think "Day 4 in the Big Brother house".
You thought Patrick Allen, you thought "Chucking Spunky Tunes In Your Tellybox!" Razz

The best was probably "Paris squashed against Britney... in your gaff".

Exactly - well said. His voice nowadays instantly brings to mind E4. And the fact that what he's saying bears no similarity to the "quality" of his voice makes it all the more appealing. You don't expect to get an old bloke saying things like chucking spunky stuff in your tellybox. Brilliant stuff.
