I've been reading about the possible new chnages that will be made to BBC News at 6/other presentation. I really really REALLY hope they don't drtastically change the presentation drastically i.e. to that like the daytime bulletins with that shell-like device that sort of 'opens up'. It's horrible, represents NOTHING about news and it looks like something knocked up on macromedia flash in five minutes. The only good thing about it is the music.
The rebrand of BBC News has been the most expansive ever - ALL BBC NEWS output is now singally branded - something we've never seen before (with exc. of Newsnight, which is more of a discussion prog than an impartial news outputter). The graphics now used are beautiful. They mix the modern aspect of TV news with the old images of news broadcasting (i.e the 'waves' that sweep the maps) The colours are warm and serious and the later images (i.e. BBC News/World countdown) with rich reds and bright areas changing into dark are so sophisticated and very unique - the scrabling letters, the countdown, the waves constantly emitting - and these with the music, a mix between a modern, contemporary beat and the old hourly pips heard on radio, really portray the history and prestige of the one of the worlds oldest and largest broadcasters. I love it... and so many BBC Workld viewers requested the muysic, they actually released a CD with it on!
I really think the current 'look' is so versatile... and can be modernised and changed to give a refreshing look without detracting frtom the original concept (i.e. the old 'map' regional graphics and the new LDN style regional graphics are easily identified as BBC News yet are completely different and have allowed the BBC to relaunch the regional progs without having to detract from the corporate look)
My wishes for the relaunch are:
- Keep the colours/set more or less same,
- Update music/titles but to keep the 3D '6' device (I think this is cleverly trying to replicate the old mechanical globe used decades ago , again to portray BBC NEWS as established and authoritative) and to keep the same map/waves theme,
- Get rid of the horrible computer created 'metal frame' used to encapture the image of the current story... horrible (the very first of these was the best)
- THE ASTONS HAVE TO GO... where did black come from? It's so 1-D, it doesn't look transparent and I hate the size of the text they use (I also HATE those animated ones on N24)... the first astons where nice (as far as text sizes)
- The daytime 'orange' look has to go...it has no reseblance of the corp look and looks like a news program from the early nineties!!
Don't ruin BBC NEWS!!!
