Until now I was thinking more of a blessing!

I've been thinking for a whilst it would probably do me good to take a little break from this break.

It didn't.

Thanks Asa for getting this temporary place up though before riots broke out on the streets.

No problem. Ironically until fairly recently there was a ghost version of the forum sat here ready and waiting for such an eventuality but I then cancelled the hosting. It had never been needed. Last night meant speedily finding a host again!

There's no news about the main site unfortunately so your guess is as good as mine. When does BBC Three close? Confused

For those wondering about data, for a long time there has been an off-site daily backup of the database. So worse case scenario is we'll have lost posts made on Wednesday. For anyone who remembers 2003 that's a massive improvement!

Thanks Asa - isn't it always the way that as soon as you get rid of a backup of something, it's suddenly needed?!

Funnily enough I was just talking to a TVF friend this evening and we were discussing the great forum crash of 2003. For anyone who doesn't remember, we all had to sign up again and I seem to recall a great deal of posts - if not all - were lost and ended up resetting everyone's post counts to zero. Everyone's original registration dates were also lost, which is why to this date for some of us it says that we registered "before January 2003".

Good to hear it is backed up though thinking about it maybe a clearout wouldn't be the worst idea, certainly moving the megathreads to the archive (even though the sport thread is tantilisingly close to 1000 pages). Could help encourage people to start new threads as well.

It was them gravitatory waves what done it.

If the Sport Thread gets archived, what's the betting "The NEW Sport Thread" arrives almost immediately?

To be honest, I think the situation regarding new topics is far better than it was at one point. The megathreads do serve an important purpose and the last thing I'd want is to miss topics because new topics are being shunted to page 2 or 3 by a flurry of yet more new topics.

EDIT: I notice that posts I make myself make the new post flag appear for me. How odd.

Well, this happened.

At least we got tvfi.co.uk up as a backup!

Not much Asa can do until the hosting comes back. If you have Twitter it might be worth looking at the @tvforum feed for specifics

Nowt, unfortunately. Other than knowing there's about 300 of us still affected. I'm in a bit of catch 22 as I could go ahead with a new host, rush setting it up and wait 24hrs to get the domain to point at the new place, or point it here, or hang on and hope I'm next on the list. It could just spring into life at any time.

They sound like they're doing a rebuild so I'll be interested to see when the last database backup was.
