Having completely derailed Steve Williams' Very Early Telly Thread with a load of closedown talk, I thought it would probably be best to start a completely new thread to discuss your memories of when TV shut up shop for the night.

To kick things off here's a YTV closedown from 1983 featuring some classic Public Information Films and a rather nice ILR promo

Central's starry night will always be my favourite.

Oh yes that's incredibly similar. Sepaking of This Morning allows me to neatly segue into another favourite, the Granada closedown, here seen for the very last time

Strange thing is that night service, was a jointed operated by STV, Central and Granada, but by May/June it fell apart, and all three went there sperate ways. Of course STV would piggy back of everyone else feed for certain network shows.

Here is the night time promo STV borrowed.

It was worth sacrificing the closedown to get Night Club with reruns of random HTV programmes such as Great Little Trains of Wales.

And of course, this ultra-80s intro:

I'm actually pretty disappointed to find that the jolly music in the air rifle PIF was simply a Victor Lewis-Smith addition!

One of my favourite clips on YouTube, that, because Uncle Col is so ace. I love how he completely messes up the link before the break but he's so amusing it doesn't matter one bit. What a genius he was. And the Granada closedown music is really lovely.
nwtv2003 and Neil Miles gave kudos

This is my favourite Granada closedown clip on YouTube, a touching dedication to Pat Pheonix by Jim Pope on the day of her death in 1986. The sort of thing you can't do anymore.

From the comments on that video:

Steve Green posted:
I was the ATC who did the sound and vision mixing on this. When we faded to black the loggist came out crying and saying "Oh Jim, I have never heard anything so beautiful".
