Should be said with very bad acting skills (a la Michael Winner) and should be:

"Calm Down Dear" Shocked

I prefer not to stoop to Roger Mellies 'unfunny' level.

In light of such high-minded criticism; what sort of humour do you find funny (if any), self-appointed Constable Alarsne53 of the Humour Police (TVF Division)? Smile

PS: I think you'll find it was Michael Winner who was responsible for said catchphrase, not I. Wink

I seem to recall you repeating it often on here.

I like most find a wide range of things funny, you're not one of them, especially when droning on in the yorks and lincs thread about the peter levy show and discussing transmission boundaries with the person known as jack carkdale/seventytwofour/brothertonsands.

It's called droll humour; maybe you ought to hire one of John Shuttleworth's DVDs, you may just learn something.

Well OK you don't find me funny. Fine, you're entitled to your opinion; however what was the justification for that barb in your last post but one? Entirely unprovocated bitch at me in this instance I felt.

I thought the purpose of TVF is discuss TV presentation, not make sniffy ad homnem attacks on fellow TVFers, just because you don't find them funny. It's TVF, not Mein Kampf.

I actually haven't commented on LNH recently, but so what if have talked LNH in the past? Plenty of other people have criticised LNH more severely, and more often, than I have; why haven't you rounded on them? If Brotherton Sands asks a genuine/relevant question, what's wrong with answering it in friendly fashion?

As for the accusation that I have repeated Winner's catchphrase quite often, at most I have used it five times (at a guess)... out of 1136 posts. In other words 0.44% of my total-- hardly a habit of a lifetime.

You can deride me all you like, but it is futile. I don't take myself too seriously-- in fact I'm a moving target shrouded in a mist of irony! Since you clearly don't see me as being funny, I shall use a quote from an acclaimed comedy writer, Shakespeare:
"I have said too much unto a heart of stone"

Back to topic : I'm also finding the proliferation of on-screen trailers irritating. Continuity announcers do the job of announcing the following programmes, so why the need for incessant on-screen reminders? Confused

I think the best thing would to be to complain en masse to the ITV Duty, they may just take notice then.

Sky One's 4:3 DOG has been on the fritz all evening, only showing this:

Just after 6:30 they changed it to the 16:9 DOG, which worked normally, despite being a 4:3 show. However, seems like the playout server has put the 4:3 one back up following the ad break.

The end of The Simpsons played out without a continuity announcer (although it did have the ECP) and the start of the ad break was in 4:3 at about 7pm too.

So can we assume yes wins then? Wink

Just tuned in to Virgin 1 for the first time since its launch three days ago. I'm so glad they've gone for a translucent off-white DOG, unlike Ftn which had a gaudy red and yellow one.

Interestingly Virgin 1's DOG is in the top left hand corner of the screen, whereas Ftn's DOG was in the top right hand corner.

In my opinion, DOGs would be okay, if they were at the bottom right hand corner of the screen - that way not blocking anyone's heads, etc. (Like they go over in the US).

But why have them at all? No matter whereabouts on the screen they go, they are surely just unnecessary clutter. Why have them?

I don't see the need for opaque white text..however an unobtrusive one tucked away isn't as much of a problem to me. Ideally they wouldn't be there in the first place but I'm not in charge..

Some Australian ones (all to scale, in the bottom right corner):

What is not alright is when they cover up information..like one regional network in Australia, which blocks off the entire super area (there's the normal version for comparison):

Fortunately that's since been removed.

Sky TWO has very annoying text in the top right saying whatevers on tonight.

Its putting me right of watching Voyager and it might be better if it goes to Virgin 1.

Yep - it's the thing i find most annoying - what I dub "promo DOGs" - or branding the night and telling us it's "Comedy Thursday" or something!

I agree with that. Channel dogs don't usually bother me, usually it's the promotional logos/text that annoys me. I think its more that its in another corner of the screen. Dogs that animate every so often (so not constantly) to advertise something don't bother me as much.
