What do S4C show during closedown anyway?

They show closedown screens, with weather info [often days old], Brookside, Pobol Y Cwm and Wedi 7 summaries, schedule for the day ahead, and bilingual contact info -- all accompanied by the *lovely* closedown music for about 10 mins, and again just before start up -- superb it is.

For this reason alone, I hope S4C~ never goes 24-hours -- not out of any garbled principles or anything, just for the music. Aahhh.

I don't think S4C~ can exist *alongside* C4 on analogue in Wales, due to transmitter space. And a rebrand wouldn't make sense -- different companies, different funding etc. Mind you, by the time they've discovered S4C~ is bleeding just too much money, everyone will have digital tv [and hence C4], so S4C~ analogue, and the lovely closedown music, will be no more.

So it's not so much a closedown, just their version of ITV Nightscreen

Last time we had this discussion, ISTR that I asked the more important question: "Why does S4C bother returning after closing down every morning?"

Ch5 can configure any of their transmitters to broadcast something diffrent - they have (or had, it might have changed since) 5 seperate feeds of channel 5 via satellite and each transmitter can be changed to rebroadcast a diffrent feed.

They still can, Larry.

See teletext page 598 to check which region your local transmitter is switched to.

Re: S4C - they seem to have cut down on Welsh programmes in prime time- it's now 7pm-9.30pm most days - they used to begin an hour earlier.

And like alot of people I began watching S4C as a handy alternative to missed C4 programmes - it shows there is demand for "time-shuffle" channels, so could be an idea for "G4".

I rather think that they're slowly reducing the amount of Welsh language output on S4C Analogue, as more and more people get access to S4C Digidol, where it's ALL in Welsh.

How will S4C Digital be affected when the free-to-air channels are lost?

Well yes. The actual closedown afterwards is a slightly less appealing tune, something along the lines of *beeeeeeeep*.

It still says "Close" in tv guides. And the annos before the screens come on sound like closedown annos of old -- "we've come to the end of our programming here on S4C..", or "that's just about it for another night..". Then they ask you to sleep tight and *be sure* to join us when programmes start again, with the Hoobs.

Nos da.

On digital, Wales get channel 4 on sky at 184, but which Channel 4 out of the 6 versions do they get? London, North, Ulster, Scotland or the other 2, which I cant remember? In the future they will have to be a channel 4 Wales as everybody will be digital and have only s4c digidol and channel 4, not s4c analogue, well that’s unless s4c analogue version goes digital in the future which is pointless as viewers will watch welsh stuff on Digidol.

The other two are Midlands and South. Not sure which one Wales gets though - am willing to watch Freeview channel 8 later and note down the ads if anyone in the likely regions (London, South and Midlands, I guess) wants to do the same..! Presumably C4 on Sky is the London version wherever you are?

Doesn't the 4-Tel clock cracker tell you what region you're on (p399 I think), HFR - North is what I get, HFR being Horseferry Road
