Does Richard Bacon make Princess Productions shows better?

Something for the Weekend and The Wright Stuff etc. (January 2009)

During the summer Richard Bacon stood in for Matthew Wright on The Wright Stuff for a few weeks and it was better because of it. Yesterday, Richard Bacon stood in for Tim Lovejoy on Something for the Weekend and it was also better that a normal episode.

He was also good on The Big Breakfast and Flipside too. Why doesn't someone give Richard Bacon a permanent TV gig?

Discuss.

Because too much of him and it becomes overkill, he becomes a parody of himself. And maybe his agent spends too much time posting on forums to have the time to get him a proper gig.

Probably because he has a permanent, daily radio gig

He's not too bad on those The Most Annoying Celebs... BBC3 shows but that's probably because he's equally as annoying I guess.

(That made sense)

I actually have a lot of time for Richard Bacon. After thinking he was a smug idiot when presenting Blue Peter, then obviously the whole incident involving Calpol or something like that, I came round to him when he was sitting in on Five Live - either Up All Night or Edwina Currie's old show. He surprised me with how good he actually was. When in serious mode he's an easy listen, often has something sensible to say and is prepared to sit back and listen when he doesn't (instead of pretending and jabbering away). On Something For The Weekend he was funny and relaxed and had you not seen the show before you'd think he had the gig permanently.

Depends how you like your tea I suppose.

I've got a lot of time for him too, he's excellent on Five Live (Monday to Thursday 10pm till 1am).

His voice overs on the BBC3 lists shows do make them a lot more watchable

He's certainly someone who's improved with age and has rather seamlessly made the switch from light entertainment to more serious stuff.

By getting sacked by Blue Peter for taking hard core drugs! Laughing

I have to agree, his show on 5Live is a great listen, as for his BBC Three shows, they're still trash TV.

I'd agree with that. I think he's one of those boradcasters who is better suited to radio; to me he seems to across as awkward/uncomfortable on television somehow, confer the time he presented The Wright Stuff recently (then again he Rustie Lee to contend with!)
