Apparently, the BBC have been fined £50,000 by Ofcom for that "Blue Peter" fake call-in business recently and we the public will pay out of our licence fee. Is this a nice way for Ofcom to get rich quick? What do they do with our money I wonder!

All OFCOM fine money (and ICSTIS I believe) goes to the Treasury...

... so the Chancellor is really profiting from this - they're getting hundreds of thousands in fine money, but what they've kept quiet about is the 17.5% VAT they've been creaming off the Premium rate lines too!

Ofcom were right to fine the BBC - they screwed up big time and it hopefully sends a clear message to them what will happen if they besmirch one of the most trusted children's series.

The BBC would probably have tried to brush this under the carpet otherwise, so the teeth of an external regulator in this instance has been a worthy wake-up call.
