Yes, splitting the series - putting people off and basically losing viewers.
There's 8 more episodes to follow in (I think early) 2013.

Doctor Who has long series compared to many British shows. Splitting it into two not only allows for two season finales but less time in between full series.
Please post your data regarding a loss of viewers being directly due to the splitting of the last series.

It kind of like back to the old days when Doctor Who used to be on for 24-26 weeks and used to straddle Autumn and Winter schedules.
5 episodes and Christmas special this side of New Year and 8 episodes other side of New Year with season 8 starting next autumn - in time for the 50th anniversary.
Am I right in thinking that there are only 5 episodes + a Christmas special in this series?
If so, that's a little disappointing.

Haha, I agree with that, they could have at least made the logo out of dinosaur scales, rather than grass

Nine months, which is far, far less than most drama series on telly. It's been over a year since New Tricks was last on, Merlin ended last autumn and there isn't going to be a new series of Doc Martin this year so when it returns it will have been away for two years. I don't know why Whovians think this programme is treated badly. It used to be on for 26 episodes a year when all dramas on TV did that. They don't any more.
I think its nicely broken up, but the wait for this season has been awful.

that is true, when the doctor was cornered by a load of darleks It was like one of the classic cliffhangers
Besides, 26 episodes in the 70s and 80s is the same amount of material as 13 episodes now, because the episodes are twice as long now!
