Just try not to use "gay" as a negative word - "just a little too gay to be of any use".

Or "You're so gay!" from Rose when the Doctor complained about getting a smack from Jackie...

Exactly. In recent months I've heard "gay" used in a negative way on several programmes.

Anyway, don't want to take this thread off topic too far!

The point of my post was that, in my opinion, these less than subtle references have detracted from the story. I don't believe that RTD is brainwashing the next generation into homosexuality, merely that it has a tendency to be an annoyance in an otherwise decent plot.

Okay, so would you mind giving me some idea of which bits did detract for you and how?

I totally agree, but much of the humour related to Who seems to fit this description. I've often thought this must be of great annoyance to the majority of gay people, whom I well know are not of the flamboyant type.

I'm not a 'flamboyant' type (which is a delightfully underused word Smile ) but didn't find the humour detracting. But then I rather enjoy the fact that there's a mix of drama, humour, emotion etc. Doctor Who isn't hard sci-fi, it's science fantasy/ family drama. It has a wide audience range to appeal to.

To move the subject on. Who do we all think is in the pit? It's clearly not Satan himself that just would'nt be it.... so who is it? Also how excally is all that energy being generated?

I really do take the plots to heart... who is it???

well now that Strictly dance Fever has finished, the creature in the pit is Arlene Phillips. The Radio Times describes it as a big red CGI creature. Arlene fits the bill perfectly.

Aside from the fact that he's bisexual anyway, what possible bearing does the character's sexuality have on his ability to do the job / be a hero etc.

Just to clear things up, the character is not bisexual. He does not see looks as a barrier when it comes to sex. So male or female, old or young, it wouldn't make a difference.

"So male or female...it wouldn't make a difference" sounds like a fairly concise definition of bisexuality. Whatever he is, in his multi-species 51st century world, it certainly seems to encompass 21st century bisexuality.

As for not seeing looks as a barrier, that's wildly extrapolating from what we've seen on screen, where he's only ever flirted with young (bar the Doctor) attractive human(oid)s (unless they left him alone with Margaret the Slitheen, and I don't want to think about that ).

To answer your question, go to the official Doctor Wo website, because the front page has been updated. But be warned: the brief picture flash is very scary!

A lot of gay sexual tension surrounding captain jack, the gay kiss between captain jack and the doctor in series one, the comment about beating out gayness from children in the idiot's lantern etc. There have been numerous references.

I totally agree that humour is an essential part of the show. And there are some great lines, especially I think with David Tennant as the doctor. But this undertone of frothy humour targetted at kids- remember this was my original point as something that won't work if aimed at adults in Torchwood.

If everyone remembers correctly Captain Jack, and the Doctor included, are omnisexual - effectively will go for anyone or anything (i.e. there are no longer and tags abouts sexuality as everyone is treated the same). I presume this is what RTD is trying to prescribe to his audience.

Huh?

Do you mean when he flirted with the guy on the Game Station - in the same way as he'd flirted with Linda before that?

That was a goodbye kiss between two very close friends, played in exactly the same way as the kiss with Rose. It wasn't sexual.

Interesting. Nothing was ever said that stated Tommy was gay. I agree that was probably the intention of the line, but it could just as easily have meant that Mr Connolly didn't want his son to be a nerd/geek/wimp/whatever and (in the character's minds) that the best way to change that was to beat him.

I'm sorry, but you seem to be making a very big issue out of very small happenings in the series.
