But when you think about it, this IS the problem; Dr Who needs an iconic actor - not someone who could just be anybody, otherwise where is the sense of alien?

Surprised no one has mentioned the latest episode...

Some of it was set on the alexander palace transmitter, with a "evil wire" trying to use it as a reciever rather than a transmitter. Thought it might be of some interest to tv forumers Wink

I have just watched tonight's episode and think it was great! There were quite a few humorous scenes which made me chuckle so much I kept replaying them....this is one of them:
Doctor Who Clip - 27 May 2006.....maybe it's just my weird sense of humour, but the way Billie smirks and then dashes out of shot had me laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

BBC Wales are certainly on to a winner here. Their investment in the programme shows. Very Happy

And the bit just before - quite cutting:

Dr: Union flag?
Rose: Mom went out with a sailor.
Dr: Oh-hooh, I bet she did!

Notice that the street party was held in 'Florizel Street'!

I live about a mile from Ally Pally. Wonder if I'm safe from a bezerk Maureen Lipman?

In fact there were quite a few references to "Coronation Street" in last nights episode. The most obvious being "Florizel Street" - being the working title before choosing the name we have today!!!!! Or was it all just word play as it was supposed to the the Coronation!!!! Laughing Laughing

Not that the lead writer, i.e. Rusell T Davies, more than likely requested Mark Gatiss to put some references in, as Russell is a real BIG Coronation Street fan anyway!

Of course there's one glaring error - the Bats Wings ident shown on the television sets didn't come into existence until December 1953, six months after the Queen's coronation. But as it's a Mark Gatiss episode, I'll forgive that. Very Happy

Just watched it, another very good episode - brilliantly shot and a great storyline. I did like the intro announcment too, "We television announcers, we're a strange breed and they don't make us like they use to!"

That's a thought how does the multiple writers thing work exactly? I mean the 'linking' and continuity of each episode do they get given Russell’s script and gap ideas to fill in or do they all get written then tweaked after to make them all flow??

And I thought David Walliams and Stpehen Fry had written episodes for this series?

I think Russell oversees it and then intervenes after the first draft or so, to add in some continuity (although with The Girl in the Fireplace, Steven Moffat wasn't told about the continuing animosity between Rose and Mickey, which is why they seem fairly friendly in that episode).

David Walliams was rumoured to be writing, but this isn't true. Stephen Fry's story has been put back to series 3, because of the cost of the special effects.
