I sincerely believe that on the whole, the criticism is not as a result of sexism - Doctor Who fans are famous for hating change, whatever form that might take. It's not the case that it's a woman, it's just that it's something different.

I'm still allowed to say I think the BBC did this to tick boxes

I don't think anyone's saying you're not allowed to say anything you want.

and caved into people complaining instead of picking something who could bring new life into the series.

You seem to be dead set against Jodie Whittaker being able to do just that.

There been complaints for 20 years about this, you dont just change something because people are unhappy etc. That why I'm not impressed. Lets not forget the BBC spin out reports to people in April abouts stuff.

I don't agree that there have been complaints. There have been suggestions (for somewhat more than 20 years!) that a future Doctor could be female. I have a vague recollection of Tom Baker suggesting it nearer to 40 years ago...

I also believe someone have failed to understand that certain group within in the Who-fandom who just like the simple continuity, that there views.

"It's always been done this way, so we should always do it this way" - which is pretty much the antithesis of some of the core messages of a show about exploring, adventure, change and renewal.

I am very disappointed at the near-total lack of engagement with my (and others') posts about e.g. how Whittaker might characterise the part, whether the TARDIS console room will get revamped, etc etc.

You know... the kind of discussions that regenerations normally give rise to.

I imagine that Chibnall has some pretty strong ideas for a semi-reboot of the show.

I wouldn't be surprised if the TARDIS control room is changed as it dates (with some alterations) from The Snowmen (Christmas 2012).

I think there will be a new logo, new titles and new version of the theme tune (hope so, can't stand the current version).

I think, from what Whittaker has already said, that her portrayal will have subtle nods to previous Doctors, but will mainly be a brand new take on the character, which is great.

I also suspect the format of the series will change, possibly into one story across the series or something like 3 x 4-part longer stories. I'd be surprised if the storytelling doesn't change.

I also think there will be fewer links to the past of Who (much like when RTD brought it back) to make it more accessible for younger and casual viewers.

That do you? Wink

I read that he was looking at his series reflecting latter-day Tennant in tone - so we're talking the Donna Noble era.

As someone who's found it all a little dark and confusing with Moffat at the helm, I'm quite looking forward to this!

Series 4 is, for me, the highlight of Modern Who. Tennant was comfortable in the role, Donna was a great foil and there were a good run of well-written stories with a good mix of fun and drama.

I admit to rewatching parts of series 4 more often than pretty much anything else Who broadcast since 2005.

If her face is in the title sequence, I wonder how they'll choose to do it? For Capaldi, we've obviously had little more that his distinctive eyes/brow area, rather than a full face. Maybe she'll wink like McCoy? Or stick her tongue out at us?!

Interesting idea. Thumbs up Like a cross between the classic series (several episodes per story), and the new series (45-mins per episode), then?

Series 4 was excellent but for me Series 5 (Matt Smith's first) was consistently excellent and for me the strongest series since the return in 2005, that series every episode bar Victory of the Daleks was excellent and just pipped series 4 although I probably preferred Donna Noble to Amy Pond although controversial I have always preferred Matt Smith as the Doctor to David Tennant although Tennant was also excellent.

You can be sure, if Series 11 is a failure, ratings slip further, then Jodie will be kicked out of the TARDIS as fast Colin Baker was kicked out when his time as the doctor tanked the show

That wasn't Colin's own fault, though, was it? Wink

He, too, thoroughly approves of Jodie and is disappointed by all these "female Doctor = VERY VERY BAD" remarks:

"Change, my dear, and it seems not a moment too soon..." are of course the first words that Colin Baker spoke after his regeneration scene.

Not the very first. Those were "You're expecting someone else?" The above was his third and final line before the end credits of the episode.

And the "[She is/I am] the Doctor, whether you like it or not" was from the end of his first full story.

I am looking forward to the regeneration scene. I hope the show does not go further into the wacky side. It's getting far too digitised. I prefer it more analogue. It was up until Matt Smith era. If that makes sense.
