Series 10 had the lowest ratings for the show in some years. Even with catch up added on it was still way low. Now of course this is part down to the fact that many now don't watch television in the traditional way, but it is also down to the writing, acting and production.

Steven Moffat ruined so many parts of Doctor Who, it is as if Chris Chibnall has been given a rotted plant and has been asked to make it live again. Tough job, so he and his new team thought to do this, a female doctor. Nice gimmick, helps to silence the sexism critics of the show, but all in all if the stories are awful, and the production stinks, Jodie will have maybe 13 episodes and then farewell.

I have been bored by Doctor Who for some years now. We have the benefit if time, as there is another five month wait to Christmas, with probably a further nine month wait until Jodie's first full (and possibly only) series.

Would the misogynists on here be saying "the Doctor is WHITE" if Paterson Joseph had been cast?

TV has been suffering from low ratings for years. Look at the share and the programme still has that. But don't let the facts interfere with your blatant prejudice.

What I think is quite funny is all the flag waving feminists don't realise they've just been used as a gimmick for ratings.

And you wonder why people of your ilk fail to convince these "blatantly prejudiced" people. Laughing

"Ilk"? For at least allowing a talented actor A CHANCE? You've already tried and convicted her before she's even shot another scene and you call someone wanting fairness "ilk"? I think it's you with the problem, chum.

Tell me, what facts have you got that support the idea that the Doctor shouldn't be played by a woman?

That just isn't true. Shares for Series 10 have been pretty dismal. Even the consolidated ratings haven't been strong; the most recent episode managed around 5.6m consolidated. Yes TV ratings have fallen across the board, but the big, popular programs have actually been growing. The most recent series of Broadchurch, for example, was up on the first series (around 12m for the last episode). Strictly Come Dancing has been up year on year for a few years in a row. Coronation Street is up 1m year on year. Why are all these shows doing well yet Doctor Who is struggling?

It's far too simple to just say that ratings have fallen for everything so it's all dandy.

Wouldn't it have been good if all the people moaning about the new Doctor actually watched the last series!

I haven't even stated my opinion of her as the Doctor on this thread - are we going for a hat-trick of assumptions here?

I personally really don't care about the gender of a fictional character and I don't get morally outraged at other people's opinions about said fictional character. It's the writing that really counts. Then again, I can understand why people may not agree with this gimmick and I don't make assumptions about their value as a human being.

Knowing BBC managements machinations they will launch the new look weather forecasts which will give all the nay-sayers something else to which they can switch their bile. Very Happy

P.S. I've just phoned my doctors to get an appointment.... its with a female doctor!

I never said that the Doctor shouldn't be a woman. I would have thought that it was obvious that I was speaking in regards to other people. Laughing
