Random thought: She's the first blond(e) Doctor since Colin Baker (and only the third in total).

Ironically, there's yet to be a *naturally* blond actor play the part!

And, sadly, there's *still* yet to be a ginger Doctor either! Sad

I'm a big Doctor Who fan. And something that interests me is whether we will have brand new titles and theme tune with the debut of the 13th Doctor, seeing as the current ones have been in use since 2014.
And possibly a new Tardis Set as the current one has been used since 2012.

I think a new logo as well as new titles is almost certain. They are going for the full reboot like they did in 2011.

Personally, I don't think there will be a new Tardis set mainly because of the cost. The current set might be a few years old, but it's in pretty good shape and isn't showing it's age. The current set will also have been pretty expensive, it must be the biggest Tardis set ever - it's over several floors and you can film from every angle inside the set (first set to be able to I think?). Chibnall's team will be able to tweak the set quite effectively.

BBC are ready for the backlash, the happen to have two female newspaper reviewers lined up on the news channel plus a feminist author. They are also quick to point out she isn't on twitter. It has nothing to do with male or female power its a gimmick and a ratings grabber. If the ratings are down she'll be out the Tardis door faster than Germain Greer in a strip club. Weird to think that there is a significant amount of loyal fans who might be rooting for the Daleks to beat the Doc in the next series Very Happy

The piece by Lizo Mzimba on the BBC News website basically says there was no chance of the Doctor being played by a white, male actor as the BBC were determined to to show 'greater diversity'. Add to this Chibnall saying the next lead was going to be a woman and and what you get is undoubtedly a bit of positive discrimination. But I think mainly the decision has been made so as to increase ratings as otherwise the show is very much a sinking ship.

Perhaps a few net curtains and a nail bar - stand by for feminist backlash Laughing

Can I open the question of whether we can expect a male of female assistant?

"Assistant"? Shocked

No genuine fan would ever call the companion(s) that, methinks! Razz

Prepare to be exterminated/deleted. Or something.

To anyone crying about how they won't watch Doctor Who any more because the 13th Doctor is to be portrayed by an actress ... "It's over!" "The show is dead!" "R.I.P. Doctor Who!" ... etc ... before a single 13th Doctor episode has been filmed yet, All I've got to say to you is ... Goodbye! See ya then! Don't let the TARDIS door hit your arse on the way out!

Then you'll tune in anyway ... like hypocrites!

What was the question?

I've popped it in bold to help.

That depends on your personal views and opinions, it's already been stated by a number of people why a number of use are not best pleased about this, you're confused the point between Why shouldn't it be allowed and why people are not happy because of the reason it's being done now.

No, honestly - I don't understand why people are not happy. I really don't. I've honestly not seen a single argument why the Doctor shouldn't be portrayed by a woman. I'd be delighted to hear such an argument, because I really would like to understand.

The answer is simple. Prejudice, bigotry, misogyny. That's all.

I've seen similar arguments that Superman should be re-cast as a woman, that doesn't really stack up either but doesn't stop people going on about it.

Yes, like all arguments logic doesn't get in the way with some people. Incidently if Dave Gorman does another series I'm sure the Wonder Woman thing will end up in a 'found poem'

Anyway there is a female version of Superman isn't there?

Bit in bold. Has anyone ever seen a more immature comment Wink

It is true though, reminds me of this infographic that was circulating yesterday:

Mind you if you want an immature comment then... I'd have thought that most Whovians would welcome another female character Wink

Add in male chauvinism and patriarchy and we have a royal flush of grossly misused buzzwords.
