it has been confirmed that the famous "Middle Eight" part of the theme tune will be making a return for the christmas special.

Courtesy of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, judging by the credits. Shame we didn't get to hear it properly because of the voiceover - itself made unnecessary by the promotion that immediately followed the broadcast.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be left uninterrupted, but alas, that wasn't the case.

Thoroughly enjoyed the episode though.

NOt just in this thread, but also in others, can we just remember that a program is used as computer terminology whilst programme is used for television (except for Yanks as they use program for either!!!!)

Well, I may not be American, but I prefer to write "program". I've never seen the point of the extra "me" letters on the end.

And if anyone says it's gramaticalliy incorrect ... d'ya know what? To be honest, I really couldn't give a sh*t!

Now ... back on topic ... what's the verdict on the new Doctor? Better than his predecessor, or not as good?

i agree. Sometimes I write program as well, but people know what I mean. Does it really matter.

The verdict on Doctor Who - much better than his predecessor, plus David Tennant is gorgeous. I really enjoyed the christmas episode, best thing on tv this Christmas.

Absolutey f***king brilliant.

Even sad trekkie/Most Haunted fan sister was eagerly awaiting the episode.

Anyone try the interactive thing afterwards?

I was good, but that good!

I must admit that I think David Tennant fitted in so well last night. Top marks to the BBC for a fantastic show.

I think I'm going to like david tennants dr as he seems to have a good sense of whit about him, like his complaint at never being ginger, for once a positive comment about gingers on tv, now I'm thinking of ginger actors who'd make a good dr who.

anyway good episode, might convince my step dad to watch as he's miffed that christopher eckleston left.

One of the best scenes was towards the end after the Dr had spoken the six words, and Harriet Jones panicked. The eerie sound of the wind blowing against the silence and her shouting 'Doctor!' was very reminiscent of many scenes in previous seasons. Real Doctor Who.

On a side note, bit surprised to see what seemed like product placement for Moet champagne. In two quick cuts it was there, prominently on display. Bad BBC!

"Product placement" as a phrase would suggest that money had swapped hands and it was there on purpose. Obviously it's just there as a standard prop that wasn't twisted round to avoid showing the brand.

Two totally different things...

Interestingly they used their original slide for advert breaks with the UK Gold logo from the 1997-2001 era. Abit sloppy not to change them, unless they are having a "retro" day Very Happy Very Happy

Yeah, I saw that too. Apparently, sometimes you even see the really old 'End of part one' graphics from when the channel launched in 1992!

Are the overnight ratings available yet? How did the programme do?
