Which is exactly why Catherine Tate as Donna worked so brilliantly, because it was just back to Doctor and his companion with nothing else to worry about. It helped that her character was feisty and often grounded the Doctor as well. I genuinely love Catherine Tate's series, but she probably wouldn't have worked with Matt Smith but then who knows. After watching Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead again the other day, it has made me realise how excited I am about Steven Moffat's writing.

I think he said in an interview that RTD was more about big budget special effects Doctor Who with big finishes much like Superman and he was more Tim Burton and a little bit dark and considered. I'd go with that, and I was certainly happy that the River Song mystery was kept as just that when everyone had expected it all to be explained in the follow on episode.

Can't wait.

I agree with everything you've wrote here Isonstine, I think Donna was an excellent companion and see her as the 10th Doctor's companion (what I mean by that is a companion you'd associate with that particular doctor, like Jamie with 2nd, Jo with 3rd & Sarah-Jane with 4th) Rose to me will always be 9th's companion, mainly because his other two (Adam & Captain Jack) didn't travel with him, plus I was never a fan of the 10th-Rose partnership by the end.

As for the whole feel of Moffat's Who, whilst I don't think it'll be that radical a change, if there is much of a change, like there was with Hinccliffe>Williams>JNT, I still like the look of it more, just from those trailers. It seems as if The Moff is moving away from the full on contemporary London setting with a Cockney companion.

From what I understand, over on Gallifrey Base, the settings are: Contemporary-ish Scotland (well Amy has a Scottish accent), Britain (or England at least) in space in the far future, WWII London, Past Venice, visit Vincent Van Gogh & end up on at least one alien planet.

As I said above the trailer itself looks amazing & compared to the last four series, blows them out of the water IMO.

EDIT: Also I really can't wait for this series to start either, this has perhaps been my most eagerly awaited series for a long time Smile

Has it been definitely confirmed, one way or the other, if series 5 will be in HD? The trailers aren't making any mention of it (though I don't think they did on the Ashes To Ashes trailer last night either), and skipping ahead on Digiguide shows "to be announced" programme slots on BBC1 for that Saturday that don't align with the ones for BBC HD, and I found a Wiki page somewhere that had statements about HD removed... Yeah, I just caught the trail on BBC HD Very Happy Bit surprised it's not being pointed out on the BBC1 trails, as it's the sort of thing geeky types *cough* might specifically buy a Humax Freesat box for.

Err, or any other kind of box Embarassed

Must watch that preview, although I think I'm going to try & stay away from the new section on Gallifrey Base once it's aired, the amount of threads that will appear after it's airing will be shocking to say the least.

Dunno if this has bene asked already - but is the new series next weekend going to debut with a brand new remixed Doctor Who theme tune? Or are we having the same one as per the specials and Series 4?? Either way, I'm not fussed but I'd like to know! Very Happy

The 'video explorer' looks like an interesting new feature for displaying short clips.

I do like how all the snippets and teasers are revealing absolutely NOTHING new compared to what used to be revealed during the RTD years.

I'm trying to watch it on Freesat (red prompt says "Doctor Who") and when I press it it says "Content Not Found: Please contact BT Broadcast on +91 124 *** **** for further details. Reason: Licence error".

Only the sport interactive stuff works on Freesat - two years on they've not sorted out the rest, even though it's simply switching to a video stream in the same way you switch to the Sport Multiscreen.
